People always seem to want to know what I like and what I do, so here's a little more about me and what I've been doing lately:
I'm a California native, born in Long Beach. I currently make my home in the Midwest where the winter is bitter cold, the summer is sweltering hot and the truly "nice days" are far and few between. I've lived all over the country and I have a special place in my heart for the South and the Southwest.
I'm a writer with a Library Science background. I've written for websites, blogs, newspapers, small publications and even video stores. I've written articles, blurbs, posts, reviews, a play, editorials, children's stories, interviews and other forms of literacy goodness. I've been a newsroom librarian, children's librarian, young adult librarian, reference librarian, library paige, editor, editorial assistant and artist. I've been writing and editing freelance for years and I love the flexibility it brings, the abundance of topics to choose from, the opportunity to set my own rates and fees and the chance to get to know many different people with many different backgrounds. The best thing is that I'm fortunate to be doing what I love, so it really doesn't seem like "work" at all.
I love funny and humorous, so it makes sense that Amy Sedaris is one of my idols. That said, I'm a huge fan of "Strangers with Candy," both the series and the film. I also enjoy her books and I'm a fan of her brother David, who is an author.
My favorite color has always been pink - long before Paris Hilton made it popular or it became "the new blog."
I like to swim and play volleyball. I'm not much of a bowler, pool player or dart thrower. I'll participate, but let's get it out in the open: I'm pretty lousy at all three. I'd like to learn how to golf, though.
Some of my favorite websites are Fark, Museum of Hoaxes, Snopes and ATS. I'm also an Urban Legend junkie, which means I'm always surfing the web to find the latest information on Mothman, the Bray Road Beast and other assorted oddities. I can't seem to get enough "strange" or "weird" news, either.
I'm also an avid comic book collector who loves graphic novels, vintage pulp, quirky films and B Movies, so If you've received a Friend Request from me, it's because I came across your page and found it interesting to read, fun to visit or you've blogged about a topic I enjoy learning more about. I'm always looking for people who share my interests and who I can learn from.
My life can pretty much be summed up in song. Each one of the songs on my playlist represent something personal to me - an event, a person, a place, a time. "Who Are You" is for Derek, who I miss very much and think about every day.
