About Me

Spanish Greyhounds (also known as Galgos) are used inSpain every year for the popular sport of lure coursingfrom September to January. At the end of the season, theirowners dispose of them, often by hanging them fromolive trees, causing maximum suffering and prolongingtheir death, all in the name of tradition. This is legalin some areas of Spain where there are no laws protectingdogs used for sport. We urge you to read our Articles andspread the word as much as possible.Efforts were made by many organization to convince theSpanish Government to change legislation and protect thegalgos from further abuse.Obviously, nothing has changed and to this day, the dogsare still being tortured by their owners, at will. Theend of the hunting season is upon us. And we are not goingto accept the ongoing killing of these innocent creatures.Your Help is urgently needed. Please sign online petitions:(Links can be found in our Blogs)Send donations to the refuges in Spain (SOS Galgos orScooby) who are working so hard to care for the dogsabandoned or turned over by some hunters. You can also sponsor a dog or contribute to the care ofone you pick out from pictures on their web sites. If yousend donations through the AEGA,you can earmark them for whichever refuge you wish andyour donations will be tax deductable.Your help is greatly appreciated.

My Interests

This Website is dedicated to you my dear Molly, I rescued you from the spanish Perrera and thought that we had lots of years to come together. You lost your fight and had to go over the Rainbow Bridge. I'll never forget you, you'll always have a place in my Heart.

Hole in the wall. There's not a sound to be heard at night 'Cause all the inmates are shaking with fright. So cold and dark and filthy too, No food to eat, what can we do? Conditions are horrendous, I wish we were dead Our stomachs hurt through hunger, cold concrete for our beds. We've seven days of torture before we're put to death I wonder what it feels like, taking your last breath. The "Hole in the Wall" is all we've got untill it's time to go "God help us through these cold dark nights" - we moan so soft and low. I hope the rescue come in time, before it is too late If not this row of Greyhounds will meet their evil fate.

I'd like to meet:

How Could it Happen? For hundreds of years man has been fascinated by the gracefulness and elegance of greyhounds. Many people are attracted by their beauty, speed and gentle manner. How then could it happen, that these wonderful animals became victims to a cruel tragedy right in the middle of Europe?Unknown by the public die every year about 30.000 of these noble hounds in Spain in an agonising way: they are hanged on thin wires into trees, thrown into wells or down cliffs, abandoned and left to their destiny, often with broken bones, expecting to starve to death. In the best case they end up in national delivery stations where they are put to death by means of an injection. The Background of this Tragedy...The background of this tragedy has its roots in the history of Spain. The Arabs brought their greyhounds with them onto the Iberian Peninsula. In the beginning, keeping these animals was restricted to the privileged nobility, who used them for hunting hares. In this time lies the origin of the race Galgo Espagnol, the Spanish greyhound. Although it was forbidden for the common people to own greyhounds many animals were stolen from the aristocratic kennels, and so the Galgo became after a while a working animal which had to contribute to the living of the little people.Up to our days this is the use of Galgos. These animals are often kept under ineffable conditions in small crates and get only the poorest attendance while waiting to be made use of in hunting season. Breeding of Galgos underlies no rules or regulations. So it comes that Galgos are reproduced uncontrolled and in vast numbers and the litter is sold for a small amount of money. Every year there are new dogs available and the two and three year "old" dogs are surplus and have to be "dumped".

Be A Responsible Pet Owner First Spay or neuter your own pets. Adopt your next pet from a shelter or rescue. Provide ID tags and a permanent form of ID (microchip ideally or at least a tattoo) for your animals so they can be returned to you if they get lost. Know the laws (federal, state, and local) pertaining to animals. Ask for help if you are having trouble with your pet - many problems have simple solutions if you are willing to do a little research. Start with your local Humane Society, SPCA, or Animal Welfare league.Help Your Friends And Neighbors Tell them about the Spay-Neuter League coupons, Pets ALIVE Spay-Neuter Transports, Neuter Scooter and Terre Haute Humane Society's programs. Let them know that neutered animals are healthier, better pets. Many people do not understand the relationship between pet overpopulation and responsible pet ownership, so lead by example and help spread the word.Your Community & Beyond There is so much you can do! Volunteer to help post flyers and brochures, or even print one of our brochures or flyers and post it on your employer's/grocer's community bulletin board, beauty shop waiting room, laundromat, etc. Help us register local animals for the Pets ALIVE Spay-Neuter Transports, or help during the actual Transports. Write a letter to the editor, local government official, your Senator or Representative in Congress, or others who can help with local animal welfare. Donate needed items or money to local programs which help control pet overpopulation. Volunteer to walk dogs or cuddle kittens at a local shelter. Foster an animal who needs extra attention or care before being adopted. Offer to help transport animals from kill-shelters to rescues. Help out at a special event. Learn how to lobby. Contact us or a shelter to volunteer or for many more suggestions

NOT ONLY GALGOS HAVE TO SUFFER IN SPAIN:

You can see in the picture, even the eyes and snout are a target for the horde. As the crowd throw hundreds of darts, at last the bulls look like a pincushion. Then, when people have enjoyed over and over the suffering of these animals, bulls are shoot to kill and their testicles cut off.

Horse "May" just before being slaughtered. In very bad shape, underweight and dehydrated.
