FUR FARMING
Undercover investigations on fur farms have found that animals are killed by anal electrocution, during which an electrically charged steel rod is inserted into the animal’s rectum, literally frying his or her insides. Exposed broken bones, upper respiratory infections, and cancerous tumors are among the wounds and diseases that animals endured without veterinary treatment.
Animals caught in steel-jaw leghold traps are in so much pain that some actually chew off their limbs in order to escape. Since they are unable to eat, keep warm, or defend themselves against predators, many die in horrible ways before the trapper arrives to kill them. Others suffer in the traps for days until they are caught and killed. To avoid damaging the pelt, trappers often beat or stomp animals to death. Whether they are enduring the excruciating pain of a leghold trap or a lifetime of agony in a tiny cage, these animals suffer immensely!!
THE TRUTH ABOUT VIVISECTION
Every year, tens of millions of animals are dissected, infected, injected, gassed, burned and blinded in hidden laboratories on college campuses and research facilities throughout the U.S. Still more animals are used to test the safety of cosmetics, household cleansers and other consumer products. These innocent primates, dogs, cats, rabbits, rodents and other animals are used against their will as research subjects in experiments and procedures that would be considered sadistically cruel were they not conducted in the name of science.Researchers claim that they must be allowed unfettered access to animals for experiments in order to find cures for human diseases, yet they refuse to address the serious ethical problems of torturing sentient creatures for research purposes. On top of that, over-reliance on animal experimentation has historically hindered scientific advancement and endangered human safety because results from animal research typically cannot be applied to humans. In fact, scientists could save more human lives by using humane non-animal research and testing methods that are more accurate and efficient.
THE TRUE CHINESE TORTURE
Officials in a southwestern Chinese county brutally slaughtered 50,000 dogs in a government-ordered crackdown after three people died of rabies. Dogs being walked were seized from their owners and beaten to death on the spot. Killing teams also entered villages at night creating noise to get dogs barking, and then beat the animals to death. Had the government been more attentive and proactive about rabies vaccination, the killings wouldn’t have been necessary. Only 3 percent of dogs are vaccinated against rabies and more than 2,000 people die of the disease each year. Regardless of culture, the brutal killing of innocent life, human or not, is unacceptable. This must not happen again in the future! It is essential that the Chinese government place an emphasis on widespread rabies vaccination to ensure human health and prevent the unnecessary loss of animal life.
THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH! NOT!!
Circus-goers rarely get a glimpse of the harsh treatment endured by animals held captive in the circus. "Trainers" routinely beat, shock, and whip captive animals to make them perform ridiculous tricks that they cannot comprehend. Violence and intimidation are part of everyday life for animals in the circus. In a sworn affidavit to the USDA, Glen D. Ewell, a former employee of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, stated "Randy took a bullhook and began beating Nicole in the head, on the trunk and behind the front foot...until the handle of the bullhook shattered. Adam began beating her on the lumbar and hindquarter area on the right-side." Furthermore, another former employee of Ringling Bros. stated during his congressional testimony on June 13, 1999 "After my three years of working with elephants in the circus, I can tell you that they live in confinement and they are beaten all the time when they don’t perform properly."
In addition to the use of violence and intimidation, the circus also harms animals by depriving them of their basic needs to exercise, roam, socialize, forage, and play. Stereotypical behaviors such as swaying back and forth, head-bobbing, pacing, bar-biting, and self-mutilation are common signs of mental distress displayed by animals in the circus.Unfortunately, laws protecting animals in traveling shows are inadequate and poorly enforced. The Animal Welfare Act establishes only minimum guidelines, and even these meager standards are often ignored.
PUPPY MILLS
Hundreds of thousands of dogs suffer in puppy mills in this country. The dogs are prisoners of greed. They are locked in small cages. They freeze in the winter and swelter in the summer. The dogs never get out of their prisons. They are bred over and over again until they die. The only way to free them from the misery of these horrid puppymills is to eliminate the demand for puppies by refusing to buy a puppy in a pet store and boycotting those pet stores that sell puppies. When people stop buying puppies in pet stores, the puppy mills will go out of business and the misery will end. The state and federal governments do not enforce the laws to protect the dogs. The commercial breeders and brokers have huge well-funded lobbying efforts. Please join this fight to free the prisoners of greed. The only person who is going to make a difference for the dogs suffering in puppy mills is you. You, the people, can free them from their puppy mill prisons.
PET ABUSE
There are many different reasons why individuals abuse animals. Animal cruelty covers a wide range of actions (or lack of action), so one blanket answer simply isn’t possible. Each type of abuse has displayed certain patterns of behavior that we can use to help understand more about why people commit the crimes we encounter today.Animal cruelty is often broken down into two main categories: active and passive, also referred to as comission and omission, respectively.
Passive Cruelty (Acts of Omission)
Passive cruelty is typified by cases of neglect, where the crime is a lack of action rather than the action itself - however do not let the terminology fool you. Severe animal neglect can cause incredible pain and suffering to an animal.Examples of neglect are starvation, dehydration, parasite infestations, allowing a collar to grow into an animal’s skin, inadequate shelter in extreme weather conditions, and failure to seek veterinary care when an animal needs medical attention. In many cases of neglect where an investigator feels that the cruelty occurred as a result of ignorance, they may attempt to educate the pet owner and then revisit the situation to check for improvements. In more severe cases however, exigent circumstances may require that the animal is removed from the site immediately and taken in for urgent medical care.
Active Cruelty (Acts of Comission)
Active cruelty implies malicious intent, where a person has deliberately and intentionally caused harm to an animal, and is sometimes referred to as NAI (Non-Accidental Injury). Acts of intentional cruelty are often some of the most disturbing and should be considered signs of serious psychological problems. This type of behavior is often associated with sociopathic behavior and should be taken very seriously.Animal abuse in violent homes can take many forms and can occur for many reasons. Many times a parent or domestic partner who is abusive may kill, or threaten to kill, the household pets to intimidate family members into sexual abuse, to remain silent about previous or current abuse, or simply to psychologically torture the the victims, flexing their "power".

ANIMAL SHELTERS
There's a place in your community where the hungry are fed, the homeless are sheltered, and the abandoned are comforted. It's your local animal shelter, where care is provided for your area's homeless animals.Shelters also offer many other services for pets and their owners—and even for people without pets. To do all this, they rely on the support of people like you.
Remember: It is everyone's responsibility to ensure that animal shelters and animal control programs are adequately funded and supported so they can provide the services that help all members of the community—both two- and four-legged. Find out how you can get involved in the effort to help animals in your community, and learn more about volunteering at your local shelter.
UNCHAIN YOUR DOGS!
It shouldn’t happen to “man’s best friend, †but it does. Take a drive down many country roads and city streets, and you’ll see them—dogs left to spend their entire lives in “solitary confinement, †trapped at the end of a chain or in a small pen.We can’t think of a crueler punishment for these social pack animals who want—and deserve—companionship, scratches behind the ears, walks around the block, and the opportunity to curl up at your feet at night.“Chaining a dog is arguably the single most dangerous condition in which to maintain a dog.â€
–Karen Delise, author of Fatal Dog Attacks
Many communities across America and beyond have learned the hard way that chaining dogs is dangerous to the public, especially children. Chaining dogs—also called “tetheringâ€â€”is a safety hazard for both dogs and communities.

SEAL HUNTS
Canada's annual seal hunt is the largest slaughter of marine mammals on the planet. In 2006 the Canadian government allowed fishermen to club and shoot at least 354, 344 seals in the North Atlantic—almost all of them babies as young as 12 days—just to earn a few extra bucks by selling seal skins. In fact 98 percent of the seals killed were three months of age or younger, and veterinary reports indicate that many seals have been skinned while still conscious and able to feel pain.
HOW ABOUT A NICE PAIR OF BOOTS EH?
DOLPHIN SLAUGHTER
Bottlenose dolphins live in small pods of up to 12 whales; they are very social animals. Often, many pods group together to form congregations of hundreds of dolphins.Japan is slaughtering thousands of dolphins and small whales in drive hunts. During drive hunts, fishermen panic and confuse migrating pods of dolphins and other small whales with loud banging, then herd them, by the hundreds, into shallow coves, and then butcher them one by one. Every year, some 20, 000 small cetaceans of several species, some of which are endangered, including bottlenose dolphins, striped dolphins, spotted dolphins, Risso’s dolphins, short-finned pilot whales, white-sided dolphins, and false killer whales, are killed or taken in the drives, sometimes illegally. The hunts have been universally condemned by marine experts around the world as brutal, inhumane, and unsustainable, but pleas to stop them have fallen on deaf ears.
DOPHIN STEAK? YUMMY!!
COW SLAUGHTER
Cows are gentle giants, large in size but sweet in nature. They are curious, clever animals who have been known to go to amazing lengths to escape from slaughterhouses. These very social animals prefer to spend their time together, and they form complex relationships, very much like dogs form packs. In the U.S., more than 41 million of these sensitive animals suffer and die for the meat and dairy industries every year.1 When they are still very young, cows are burned with hot irons (branding), their testicles are ripped out of their scrotums (castration), and their horns are cut or burned off—all without painkillers. Once they have grown big enough, they are sent to massive, muddy feedlots to be fattened for slaughter or to dairy farms, where they will be repeatedly impregnated and separated from their calves until their bodies give out and they are sent to die.
WANNA SUPER-SIZE THAT?
SEA TURTLE DANGERS
Sea turtle have lived on earth for over 100 million years. They have outlived the dinosaurs and survived the severe climate changes of several ice ages, the last of which ended only ten thousand years ago. Once numbering in the millions, sea turtle populations are now in serious decline. Today, of the seven species of sea turtles left in the world's oceans, six are considered endangered. Like most other endangered species, sea turtles are threatened with extinction largely because of the influences of human activities on their populations and habitat.
HORSE MEAT
Did you know that there are three slaughter plants in the USA that slaughter horses for Human consumption?
Each year nearly 100, 000 horses are slaughtered in the United States and processed for human consumption. In addition, many thousands of live horses are transported across the border to Canada for slaughter. After these horses are killed, their flesh is shipped to Europe and Asia for human consumption. Their owners are often totally unaware of the pain, fear, and suffering their horses endure before being slaughtered.HORSE BURGER? GIDDY-UP!!
FACTORY FARMING/SLAUGHTER HOUSES
Slaughterhouses shouldn’t be allowed to still be in operation. They have violated almost every restriction, law, and rule that has been placed on their industry. Almost everything added to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act in 1960 is being violated. It’s known that no matter what the animals condition is the butcher takes it into their own hands to make the most money possible. There are rules about loading and unloading that are broken every second. The animals are supposed to have space when they are transported but instead they are packed together like sardines.
There are rules about cruelty to animals such as no torturing or subjecting them to unnecessary pain and suffering, and no keeping them in cages that there is not sufficient room to go with their measurements. One of the biggest issues is that the animals are not supposed to be exposed to their own kind getting slaughtered, but they are constantly having to watch their own kind getting dragged mercilessly to their brutal death. It’s also against the law to slaughter animals below 6 months, pregnant animals, sick animals, and young animals who are supplying milk. A slaughterhouse in Texas had 22 violations during a period of 6 months. During one of those inspections there were 9 live cattle found dangling from an overhead chain. Yet this is how slaughterhouses operate over and over again each day. It doesn’t help that cases against them are usually not pursued because venturing deep into slaughterhouses is not an idea liked by officials.

CATTLE CASTRATION
Cruel Castration on Baby Bull Calves
Bull calves, which are raised for beef, often come from dairy cows (to make extra profit for the dairy farmer), undergo a multitude of invasive and often very painful procedures. They are usually castrated before twelve weeks of age.
Thousands of calves are being castrated illegally-Methods of Castration for Calves-
A tight rubber ring used to constrict the flow of blood to the scrotum, the testicles then fall off.
Surgical castration where the scrotum is cut open with a sharp knife and the testicles are removed by cutting or tearing the spermatic cord.
Burdizzo where the spermatic cord is cut without breaking the skin.
Scientific research shows that all three methods cause acute pain.
No Anaesthetic
The Veterinary Record suggests that each year around 100,000 calves aged over two months are illegally castrated by farmers (instead of by vets) and around 150,000 are illegally castrated without an anaesthetic. Where calves are castrated, the law should be strengthened to require castration, even in the case of calves aged less than 2 months, to be carried out by a vet using an anaesthetic and post-operative analgesia (pain-killing drugs).
Research published in the Veterinary Record has found that many farmers are breaking the laws on castration. Under the law, surgical and Burdizzo castration of calves aged over 2 months must be carried out by a vet and an anaesthetic must be used. The new research found that 31% of farmers castrate calves when they are over 2 months old. Only 21% of farmers used a vet and only 15% used an anaesthetic. This means that thousands of calves are being castrated illegally. The survey also found that 28% of farmers using the Burdizzo method applied the second crush above the first not realising that this could inflict even more pain. Only a small number of farmers apply the Burdizzo for long enough.
By law an anaesthetic must be used when calves older than one week are castrated by the rubber ring method. But of 23% of farmers using the rubber ring on calves aged over 7 days, only 4% used an anaesthetic.
FOIE GRAS
Foie gras is one of the most sickening examples of humans' using cruelty to get “luxury.†The term “foie gras†literally means “fatty liver.†It is the bloated liver of male ducks and geese who are force-fed enormous quantities of food until their livers expand well beyond their normal size. Workers ram pipes down the birds' throats two or three times a day and pump as much as 4 pounds of grain and fat into the animals' stomachs while the birds desperately struggle to get away.5,6,7 The pipes puncture many birds' throats, sometimes causing them to bleed to death or suffer painful wounds. On some farms, a single worker may be expected to force-feed 500 birds three times each day.8 Because of this rush, animals are often treated roughly and left injured and suffering. Many birds have difficulty standing because of their engorged livers, and they may tear out their own feathers and cannibalize each other because of stress. This torture lasts 12 to 21 days and causes the birds' livers to bloat until they are up to 10 times their normal size.10 Because of the injuries and disease caused by force-feeding, the death rates on foie gras farms are between 10 and 25 times higher than the mortality rates on other duck and geese farms, and carcasses of animals from these farms show wing fractures and severe tissue damage to the throat muscles.
DOG FIGHTING
Dogfighting is a sadistic "contest" in which two dogs—specifically bred, conditioned, and trained to fight—are placed in a pit (generally a small arena enclosed by plywood walls) to fight each other for the spectators' entertainment and gambling. Fights average nearly an hour in length and often last more than two hours. Dogfights end when one of the dogs will not or cannot continue. In addition to these dogfights, there are reports of an increase in unorganized street fights in urban areas. The injuries inflicted and sustained by dogs participating in dogfights are frequently severe, even fatal. The American pit bull terriers used in the majority of these fights have been specifically bred and trained for fighting and are unrelenting in their attempts to overcome their opponents. With their extremely powerful jaws, they are able to inflict severe bruising, deep puncture wounds and broken bones.Dogs used in these events often die of blood loss, shock, dehydration, exhaustion, or infection hours or even days after the fight. Other animals are often sacrificed as well. Some owners train their dogs for fights using smaller animals such as cats, rabbits or small dogs. These "bait" animals are often stolen pets or animals obtained through "free to good home" advertisements.
BSL- AKA, BULL SHIT LEGISLATION
Breed specific legislation is exactly what sounds like...regulation of your right
to own or, in many cases, not own a dog based solely on the breed or "type"
of dog, not your responsibility as an owner.
Breed specific legislation or BSL for short, is on the rise around the world. BSL targets specific breeds of canine and either (A) restricts them severely or (B) completely bans them from areas.
Dogs are not the problem and BSL does not recognize this. People are the problem and until we find a way to punish people for their neglectful actions which allow dogs to bite and terrorize the public we will never stop the problem!
BSL can be compared to gender profiling or racial profiling. Simply because a dog appears to be a dog on the restricted list it is treated as one.
What if you were driving down the road and the police took you to jail, sentenced you, and placed you on death row just for looking like a certain ethnic group? BSL does exactly that to dogs.
RODEO CRUELTY
The animals used in rodeos are not aggressive by nature, they are physically provoked into displaying "wild" behaviour by the use of such devices as spurs, electric prods and flank straps.
Rodeos are not an accurate or harmless portrayal of ranching skills. They do not represent current stock handling skills.
Horses in rodeos, buck because electric prodders terrify them into a frenzy and as the gate opens, a "flank strap" around their groin area is suddenly tightened. The strap presses on sensitive nerves causing severe pain. The horses buck in a desperate effort to relive the pain.
Other livestock are also tormented with electric prodders and can suffer severe bruising, broken bones and internal injuries when they are thrown during events. Cattle are left without veterinary treatment, food or water for long periods of time.
A steer is thrown by grabbing the horns and twisting its neck until the body is flipped in the air and the animal slams to the ground on its side. Broken bones and injuries to the horns and neck muscles often result. This event is banned in Texas, USA, because it is regarded as too dangerous for the steer.
In calf roping events, a calf may be running at 40km per hour when the lasso tightens around its neck, jerking it to the ground. The force of the impact can cause bruising and haemorrhaging around the neck and shoulders.

The Lab Puppy
by Ashley Faison
I am a puppy that's being hurt you see…
I am just a sweet little beagle pup who doesn't understand why…
The people in the lab coats hurt me or why they make me cry!
I never asked to be here; I wish I could go home.. I pray that when
they cause me pain, that they would just leave me alone.
I sit in my cage quietly, careful not bother anybody but still they hurt.
I think they find it fun. I try not to bite them …
But I find it hard when they stick tubes down my throat
and force chemicals in my mouth that make my stomach hurt.
I really want my mommy to lick my tears away,
So I could finally be free of pain and my body
they can no longer harm.
But I know I will be tortured daily, and will always be alone!
So when you buy your products
remember its my suffering you condone.
Even though almost all test results are unclear. So don’t blame me if you die because it works for me and not for you!
