Grassroots Projects

Grassroots Projects is a group of social globalists that supports autonomous projects in Latin America. Grassroots Projects stands for solidarity without borders. In July 2005 several social globalists started the organization, because in their opinion the existing development aid won't stop the injustice in the world. It's more important to show direct solidarity with the oppressed poor in the world, instead of praising the free trade system. In Mexico for example we support Zapatista villages in Chiapas and the recent peasant uprising in Oaxaca. Besides Mexico we are also active in Guatemala, Argentina and Chile.
One of the things we do to generate money for projects is organizing concerts and selling books, cd's, t-shirts etc.
In October this year Christiaan Verweij will go to Central America to visit several communities who fight for direct democracy and a sustainable society. He will start in California to cross the border to Mexico. From there he will cycle through Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. Final destination is Colombia.
As part of the independent media articles will be written for some Dutch newspapers, magazines and websites about the daily struggle of the people he will meet during this adventurous journey.
