About Me

Bio

Antillectual is a punkrock trio from the Nijmegen area in the Netherlands. Their music is melodic yet aggressive, their lyrics range from political to personal. The band releases its second album “Testimony” on March 3, 2008. Antillectual toured the USA and entire Europe countless times.

Antillectual forms in September 2000. Before the band records their debut full length ‘Silencing Civilization’ (released by Angry Youth Records) it released several demos. This debut album gets a lot of critical acclaim. It gives the band the opportunity to tour monthly in 2006. 2007 finally brings them new recordings.

Testimony

The highly anticipated second album ‘Testimony’ features 10 songs ranging from blazing hardcore to melodic rock, accompanied by lyrics on politics, protest and personal feelings and supported by pounding drums and catchy guitar riffs. Recorded mixed and mastered by Nico van Montfort (Face Tomorrow, Malkovich, Instil). Recorded in August 2007, release March 3, 2008. The album will be released in Japan and the USA later in 2008.

Influences: People call Antillectual’s music fast, aggressive and melodic punkrock with strong and critical lyrics. People that are into Antillectual, happen to enjoy Propagandhi, Strike Anywhere, Rise Against and the like; for both music and content. Antillectual’s lyrics discuss personal experiences in life and political opinions. Items in their songs are, among many others, universal issues as intolerance, imperialism, globalization and so on.
Sounds Like: Slam Magazine (a):
Antillectual from Nijmegen has every right in the world to be mentioned among bands like THE LOVED ONES, A WILHELM SCREAM or AGAINST ME! When listening to "Testimony" you realize how much heart those guys put into writing and composing. You get the feeling of holding a record in your hand that European punkrock can pin its hope on. 8.5/10

Oor (nl):
The Nijmegen and Arnhem based Antillectual is possibly Holland’s hardest working punkrock band. The frequent playing caused Antillectual’s growth into a determined, politically aware punkrock machine.

Fret Magazine (nl):
On the new CD Testimony the Nijmegen based punk band still sounds loud, raw and very determined. With the current lack of serious substance in mind, Testimony is a release that definitely should be cherished.

Up Magazine (nl):
The craftsmanship and melody that form the quality of the Antillectual live shows now finally have been recorded on the album “Testimony”. With this album the band is in no way inferior to likeminded bands like Rise Against, Strike Anywhere and Hot Water Music. The political punk with a raw edge is catchy and contagious. It makes you want to mosh and sing along. Punk has seldom sounded so inspired. An album for the year lists! I doubt the new Anti-Flag album will be a match for this album. 97/100

Punx.nl (nl):
Silencing Civilization’s successor is a straight up hit! A feast for the ear and eye. A band that spreads its message with this much passion and integrity and, on top of that, is a treat for the ear, what else could one wish for? How beautiful punkrock can be sometimes. 88/100

Asice.net (nl):
Antillectual is the only Dutch DIY band, besides No Turning Back, that is willing to take that next step in music. Touring constantly across the globe to spread their music and message, these three guys from Nijmegen and Arnhem wholeheartedly dedicate their lives to this band. Where most bands try it, Antillectual does it and makes it look really easy. All lyrics are spot on and written with sincerity. Dynamic changes, intelligent songwriting, richly colored melodies. A true parade of different punk rock styles.

Disagreement.net (lux):
Antillectual attacks with short but surprisingly melodic punk rock songs. The vocals are shared by the three members of the band and sound raw, charismatic and to the point. Their technical capacities on their instruments are just as perfect, and it’s great how filled their songs are despite them only being a three-piece. Testimony is more than just a very good album. It’s a labour of love, with songs that are not merely entertainment, but which also carry a message. 8/10

Dedication.it (ita):
"Testimony" will win over all lovers of this kind of music with their refined melodic hardcore/punk enriched with political and social lyrics. Antillectual convinces me totally. This is one of the best punk/hardcore releases in recent months.

Lamette.it (ita):
Melody and political commitment is the basis for this complex and valuable release. Valuable on several levels. The 10 tracks are strongly structured. Testimony is undoubtedly an incredibly coherent and meticulously thought out piece of music. It’s highly recommended to listen to it on repeat, especially if you want to expand your views and musical ideas. I suggest you to immediately order your copy.

Misfitzine (por):
This highly anticipated second album is a piece of good Punk-Rock, with hardcore riffs and catchy chorus, which will knock you down! This is a band that does the walk instead of doing the talk. And we don't have too much of this today. Be sure to listen to this folks and grab a copy!
