I'm married to my loving wife, Mary, and have 6 children: Robert III, Kathleen, Conor, Kyra, William, and Aidan. I serve as Senior Attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council, Chief Prosecuting Attorney for the Hudson Riverkeeper and President of the Waterkeeper Alliance. I'm also a Clinical Professor and Supervising Attorney at the Pace Environmental Litigation Clinic at Pace University School of Law in New York. Earlier in my career I served as Assistant District Attorney in New York City. I've worked on several political campaigns and was state coordinator for my uncle Ted's 1980 Presidential Campaign. I have worked on environmental issues across the Americas and assisted several indigenous tribes in Latin America and Canada in successfully negotiating treaties protecting traditional homelands. I lead the fight to protect New York City's water supply. The New York City watershed agreement, which I negotiated on behalf of environmentalists and New York City watershed consumers, is regarded as an international model in stakeholder consensus negotiations and sustainable development.
A lot of people have expressed to me a hope and desire that I run for political office; either to rekindle my family legacy or to protect and preserve our environment. I am flattered and humbled. Someday I may run for national office, but for now I'm content being around my wife and children, fighting to make the air we all breathe more safe. More safe for us, for our children, and our children's children.
