About Me

WINNER OF THE 2008 LIS JOHNSTON AWARD FOR VOCAL EXCELLENCE AT THE 2008 NATIONAL FOLK FESTIVAL
Born in Sydney but now based on the Sunny Coast, singer songwriter Ange Takats somehow managed to begin her musical journey in Bangkok where she was based for two years as a foreign correspondent.
Spending her days on the road with a TV news crew, and her nights singing Joni Mitchell songs in a small music bar...Ange was able to mix her two greatest passions.
After several months playing solo she was asked to join a folk rock band, teaming up with some of Thailand's top musicians to perform every Friday and Saturday night at one of Bangkok’s most popular acoustic music venues.
Singing songs from the early 70s, drinking sweet Thai whiskey and learning from Buddhist musicians with big hearts, Ange's songwriting has been greatly influenced by her time overseas.
Strangely enough, her Americana music influences came from the guitarists and singers she hung out with in Thailand who owned old hippie records left by US-soldiers during the Vietnam War. They introduced her to singers like Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Joan Baez and groups like The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers and The Band.
Following her adventures in Asia, Ange enjoyed four years of chasing summer around the globe – spending time in the Middle East, Canada, Ireland, Spain and getting back to her Hungarian heritage in Eastern Europe.

Sounds Like: "I see many world class performers and up there with the best is Ange Takats. She has played here several times as a support act and never fails to command the absolute attention of the crowd and touch them with that voice - a voice that can’t be ignored and refuses to be. Great songs, stage presence, humor and future. Her next gig is a headliner" - Dan Lyons, Venue Manager Live @ Joe's Waterhole
“Ange Takats has a way of singing directly into my soul, beautifully delivered with strength yet exquisite vulnerability. Her voice needs little accompaniment” - Kelley Stewart, Judge for the National Folk Festival Lis Johnston Award
“A definite festival highlight, Ange is one of those rare talents that make you yearn for more. Her songs are refreshingly honest and are beautifully delivered. A must see!” - Glenda Jumelet, Palm Creek Festival Programmer
“Ange's songs are wonderfully constructed and well-rounded and her delivery of them commands respect. Her introductions of her songs are an integral part of the performance with just a touch of humour when required” - Jamie Johnston, Judge for the National Folk Festival Lis Johnston Award
“Her voice contains so many representations of great female singer/songwriters of past generations; but, at the same time bringing herself strongly to your attention” – Jim MacQuarrie, Chairman Folk Alliance Australia
“Ange Takats captivated the audience with her simple but perfectly crafted songs and, I must admit, her voice is truly one of the most beautiful and powerful female voices I have ever heard, bestowing goose bumps on me throughout the evening” – Polly, Tsunami Magazine.
"Her set on Boxing Day at Woodford Folk Festival's Troubadour venue was just about the most sublime, perfectly-balanced half hour’s entertainment. Rarely have I witnessed such rapt attention by a crowd." - Bill Quinn, Cornstalk - NSW Folk Federation.
