Brown Jenkins is a doom/black metal/dark rock band from Austin, Texas, in the United States of America, formed from the ashes of the instrumental band Starshine. The band confessed to have received inspiration for its work in the beginning almost strictly from the writings of H.P. Lovecraft, although their music isn't an attempt to mimic Lovecraft's atmospheric tales in any way, or to provide a "soundscape" for the reading of such stories. The band has since moved past these simple origins. The group takes its name from a creature in Lovecraft's story "The Dreams in The Witch House", Brown Jenkin, who is a malevolent half-rat, half-human figure. They are committed to fully exploring and expanding upon their original sound, a combination of melancholy, eerie atmospheres and cruel, brute power.
2007 has been a productive year for the band. After releasing the initial Squamous demo they quickly regrouped and put out a completely instrumental promo for interested parties, the Call Down The Star Cult CDR, and then, after writing for a month, the Dagonite CD. A full-length album is currently being written.
