About Me

Permaculture is a design system for creating sustainable human environments. And what we need to know about about as oil prices go up, and the imminent energy crisis becomes self evident. Our current economic model is based on infinite growth. You cannot have economic growth without burning energy. Almost all of our current sources of energy are derived from fossil fuels. We find petroleum products in every area of our lives. In the petrol we use to fuel our cars and the heating oil we use to warm our homes. Less obvious are the uses of petroleum-based components of plastics, medicines, food production, foods, packaging, plastics and a host of other products Petroleum however is unavoidably a finite resource. So the need for infinite economic growth is colliding with finite energy. (google Mathew Simmons the worlds largest energy investment baker comments)This means if 2005 was the year of global Peak Oil, worldwide oil production in the year 2030 will be the same as it was in 1980. However, the world’s population in 2030 will be both much larger (approximately twice) and much more industrialized (oil-dependent) than it was in 1980. Consequently, worldwide demand for oil will outpace worldwide production of oil by a significant margin. As a result, the price will skyrocket, oil-dependant economies will crumble. In fact Oil discoveries have been in progressive decline since 1962 It takes 30 years to change an energy infrastructure.People who think scientists creating alternative energy sources will save them are wrong. Placing a whole bunch of scientist in a room with a bunch of money and telling them to create a hotdog with no pig isn’t ever going to work. Do you think solar panels are made without burning energy?
