About Me
Orisonata is a two member band from a husband and wife. Jason composes and arranges all the music and Jennifer brings her beautifully lush voice and eloquently poetic lyrics to create (in our humble opinion) a unique and inspiring form of power, progressive, classical, renaissance, operatic metal.
Jason works in the field of mechanical engineering during the day and by night, he mysteriously transforms into a passionate musician. He has spent much of his life learning to master the guitar, and more importantly learning to compose music with it. He is currently building a home studio where he plans to record the first Orisonata full-length album. Some of his musical influences include: Blind Guardian, Dream Theater, Kamelot, Suspyre, Opeth, Orphaned Land, Rusty Cooley, Blackmore’s Night, and many classical composers like Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Bartok and Prokofiev. His “formal†musical training has come from various guitar teachers, one of course being the famous Rusty Cooley.
Jennifer is already a successful solo singer/songwriter and is releasing her second studio album in November 2008. For more information on her solo career, please visit her at www.myspace.com/jennifergrassman Jennifer is classified as a mezzo soprano and plays piano as well. Her influences include: Tori Amos, Loreena McKennitt, Debussy, and MC Hammer… j/k about that last one. She also takes much inspiration from such literary masterminds as Shakespeare, Agatha Christie, Mark Twain, Homer, and C.S. Lewis.
Now for a few words on our songs...
Keeper of the White Stone- This song is about King Arthur and his great battle with his evil son, Mordred. The lyrics are meant to portray Arthur’s internal struggle involving his duties as King and his own personal guilt as a father. Although this story is extremely tragic, there is a great comfort in knowing that justice has been dealt. Even more so, there is a hope that one day, in the time of greatest need, the true King will return.
The Great Baptism- This is a biblical epic song dealing with the great flood and how Noah, through faith and obedience, was spared from God’s wrath. The music contains varying themes and moods that symbolize the lyrical content being sung over them. The song begins very chaotic, signifying the great evil that has corrupted the world and how God’s anger is kindled. Toward the middle, the instrumental passage is comprised of alternating odd meters which symbolize the storm’s onslaught of tumultuous waters that cause all outside the ark to perish.
The Nine- In Greek mythology, there is a tale of nine muses that were goddesses and embodiments of art, music, poetry, song, dance, tragedy, astronomy, and history. They are referenced is such literary works as Homer’s The Odyssey, Milton’s Paradise Lost, and Alighieri’s The Inferno.
This is a cover of a Blackmore’s Night song. Ritchie Blackmore is a great inspiration!
