About Me

i suppose this is the section of my profile where i'm expected to "seal the deal", as it were, with your attention. this is where, in some wonderfully clever manner, i make this one myspace music page stand out far and high among all the others you've invariably stumbled upon. thing is... i don't really have any profound or extraordinarily clever little statement to make to accomplish the sole purpose of this little space provided, so instead i'll kindly ask you to read a few poems, look at some of my photography and, if the mood should so strike you, comment on either (or both). thanks for stopping on my humble online distractionD W Durney

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: daviddurney.com
Band Members: there aren't any band members; i'm a damn poetso instead this is an extremely truncated list of people i'd like to thank:in no particular order (so Lizz doesn't think she's special or some shit)Lizz Straight & Shawna Loca, Wally B. Jay, my family (which includes my friends and y'all already know that), JB, Anedra, Cotton and everyone else from Lyrical Aspirations, Black on Black Rhyme (old and new crews), God (as crazy as she is, i have to), Jess, PJ, Erika and everyone from Poetic Collage, every other venue host for continuing the scene, Chris Imperial and Project I.T. for more than i can even begin to list, Asia our very own poet prodigy, Adrienne, Richard J, Klean, Lisa, Imani, Taylor Vaughn, Ceize, Carlisle, Primo and the list goes on and on and... Tampa Bay area poets (original and transplants) i cannot extend enough of a thanks for flooding the venues and keeping this scene not just alive, but thriving and absolutely amazing; without y'all there wouldn't be any of this, Pedro and the Nation of Poetry for all the work they've done in helping to promote spoken word not only in the adult community, but also to the youth, the Great American Teach-In participating teachers who did not, in the slightest, censor me (she requested America for every class... heh), all the poets, organizers and supporters of Southern Fried, Emma and Keri for being my two new favorite people ever, Brandon for just being the absolute effing friend of friends through all things, my hetero lifemate Juya, Phillip Ott for swooping in like mf'ing Superman and being there in the absolute knick of time, and for being the person who brought me, nervous and shaking, to my first open mic (this was the best thing that's happened to me; thank you), Jessi (there really isn't enough to say, so your name will suffice; love you girl), all of my ex girlfriends for everything, and lastly my other half Khomeni for being the poet and friend who truly taught me how to proliferate my style and completely let go. and the only other cat who could hold down the Lobby for the better part of, what? four years now intermittently?if your name isn't on here and you've even so much as nodded or tipped your drink to me after i performed consider your name in between the lines in there as well. as personal an artform as poetry is, when one performs it is for a crowd, and it is the vibe of the crowd that i thrive off. thank you for being there, for listening, and for appreciating it; if y'all keep attending shows, i'll keep speaking at them!
Influences: in a sense I suppose my influences would be every single performer, poet or otherwise, that i've ever heard and appreciated
