Out of the Past, LLC is Proud to Announce the Release of “Mississippi Sea” the Solo Debut from Buddy Flett.
CD Release Date: April 17, 2007
Genres: 1. BLUES 2. AAA(Triple A) 3. Singer/Songwriter/Acoustic
Twelve songs performed on acoustic guitars by Singer/songwriter/guitarist Buddy Flett of the Bluebirds. Buddy continues to be the frontman for the Shreveport, Louisiana trio, and is currently with Kenny Wayne Shepherd’s “Blues From the Backroads” Tour until April 26th. Bunking with Hubert Sumlin and Pinetop Perkins on the Tour Bus, “young” Buddy (53) is getting the thrill of a lifetime, (and guitar lessons even in his sleep!), on this national tour. They are promoting the DVD/CD “10 Days Out”. Buddy’s song “Honk Tonk” from “10 Days Out: Blues from the Backroads” is one of the featured tracks that Blues, Roots, and AAA have featured from the disc.
“Mississippi Sea” marks a bit of a departure from Buddy’s “sound” with the Bluebirds. Acoustic blues, nine songs written or co-written by Bud. A deep, laid back artistic statement by a passionate Observer of the South. The imagery on these original tunes is deeper than the Mississippi Sea. A wider point of reference than the Mississippi Delta, with the Deep South mystique of the Ark-La-Miss and the hard-edged feel pioneered by Texans like Lightnin’ Hopkins.
“Flett’s six-string work sounds like the missing Louisiana link to Elmore James and Muddy Waters” -Scott Jordan, Gambit Weekly, New Orleans.
Featured cuts include: 3 I Hear Ya’ Callin' 4 Mississippi Sea 8 Mama’s Kitchen 10 Linin’ Track
It was Produced by Buddy Flett, Steve Howell and Darren Osborn and recorded at Sandbox Studios in Shreveport. Legendary studio bassist Joe Osborn is the electric bass player on the five tracks that have drums and bass. Joe’s son Darren plays drums and was the recording engineer. Other guest musicians include guitarists Steve Howell and Jim Caskey and Kevin Smith. Kenny Wayne Shepherd plays the solo on I Hear Ya’ Callin.
Heavy portions of his acclaimed slide guitar playing and his whiskey burned vocals help define this album. This CD will solidify Buddy’s place among the top bluesmen of his generation, a peak that he approaches as the culmination of his 36-year career.
Buddy Flett resides in Shreveport, LA and started his career in 1975 at the legendary Lake Cliff Roadhouse and the infamous Bossier Strip where the likes of Elvis Presley, Hank Williams, Sr., Gatemouth Brown and Hank Williams, Jr. all performed. Buddy was a founding member of A-Train, a very successful Blues/R&B band during the late 70's and 80's throughout the South. Buddy has written songs that have been recorded by John Mayall, Percy Sledge, and many others. He is also featured performing an acoustic solo of LeadBelly's "No More Cane on the Brazos" in the new Music Documentary on Louisiana, Robert Mugge's "Rhythms n Bayous". Buddy is currently on tour with Kenny Wayne Shepherd on his Ten Days Out: Blues From The Backroads Tour featuring collaborations with the greatest names in blues: Jerry "Boogie"McCain, Cootie Stark, Neal Pattman, Buddy Flett, B.B. King, "Gatemouth" Brown, Bryan lee, John Dee Holeman, Pinetop Perkins, Henry Gray, Calvin Jones, "Wild Child" Butler, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, "Cool John" Ferguson, "Steady Rollin" Bob Margolin, Lazy Lester and Noah Hunt.
