Call me at 225-718-6350. I'm open Tuesday thru Friday, 11am - 6pm. Drop on by.... the coffee is always hot!!
If there is a particular amp you've seen that comes in a kit form, and you don't trust yourself to assemble it, let me know. I can assemble the amp for you, test it out, and have it ready for you to rock out. Contact me for pricing.
I have a collection of Silvertones, Traynors, and Fenders. I also did a couple of mods on my "Poor Man's Plexi" Traynor YBA-1 and it SCREAMS!!!!!!
I don't own any Marshalls yet, but I hope that ends soon. ;)
It's amazing how much better an old tube amp will sound by just replacing and upgrading the old capacitors and tubes.
Life's too short to have a bad sounding tube amp!!!
Tube Guitar Amplifiers contain dangerous, high voltage circuits. Tube amps commonly store voltages of 450V and greater for extended periods of time, even days after the amp has been turned off. DO NOT attempt to service your amp if you are not qualified to do so.
Tube guitar amplifiers or valve amplifiers remain highly desirable & many guitar players will always prefer the sound quality of the tube guitar amplifier.
Tube amp repairs often involve replacement of connectors, input jacks or output jacks & other discrete components as well as tubes of course. We can also perform refurbishing services on tube amplifiers, replacing aging capacitors and other components to breath new life into your favorite amp. One of the most important services we provide is cleaning of the input jacks, speaker jacks, volume and tone pots, and tube sockets. A clean tube amp is a happy tube amp. :)
As vintage guitar tube amps age, many of the components gradually break down until they finally fail. The performance of a tube amp slowly deteriorates in this way. Often, many of us do not realize that the sound has changed, we just play the amp less often, dis-satisfied with our sound as well as a little concerned that it hums more and has less tone than it used to.
Power Supply Electrolytic Capacitors:
One of the most critical areas of a vintage tube amp are the electrolytic filter capacitors in the power supply circuit. These wear out and chemically breakdown over the years of use. Chemical reaction causes gas build up inside the capacitor that causes the case top to bubble or even rupture. The caps become less and less able to smoothly maintain the dc voltages required to keep the amp running adequately. The output hums more because the dc power has increased ripple and audible 60 cycle hum is created as a result. Electrolytic caps are good for about ten years. If your amp is ten years old or older, or your amp has not been serviced in ten years, it's time to change the filter caps and bias caps. We replace the whole bank of capacitors with new, replacement capacitors of the same voltage and value.
Coupling, Bypass & Tone Caps:
There are several electrolytic and other types of capacitors throughout the amplifier signal path, that we can also replace and upgrade. Replacing these capacitors improves amp tone, clarity and can repair several types of problems your amp may be suffering from. Commonly using Orange Drop and Mallory 150 capacitors for parts that are not electrolytic, we can upgrade the existing capacitors in the signal path.
Need new tubes? We can outfit your amp with fresh, new, matched tubes so your amp can have the best tone possible.
Do you need new pickups in your guitar? I can install pickups so you can get that sound you've always wanted. Seymour Duncan, DiMarzio, Gibson, Fender, TV Jones... you name it!!!
Let Dave the Tube Guy be your amp's next stop for service.
Some repair guys charge just to take a look at your amp. Not me. I do not charge a bench fee. Plus, if I can't fix it, all you pay for is the parts. That's right. If it ain't fixed, all you pay for is the new parts, no labor.
I can get your amp out quickly, usually repaired and ready in just a day or two if you need it back fast for a gig, and if I have the parts in stock. If I'm doing any mods, or have to order parts, it may take a little longer.
All my work is guaranteed for 30 days.
