HISTORY
In the summer of 93, after eight years as frontman for Texas thrash metal outfit Gammacide, singer Varnam Ponville starts work on a new project titled Cauldron. After years of song writing with emphasis on catchy and heavy, bone-crunching guitar riffs and his unique vocal style, Ponville relocates to his home of south Louisiana with hopes of finding a stable lineup. He soon enlists the musical talents of bassist Zeb Perkins, drummer Jason Thibodeaux, and former Gammacide bandmate Scott Shelby on guitar. The stage is now set for Cauldrons brand of thrashing doom-laden metal. In the summer of 97, Cauldron entered Nomad Recording Studio in Dallas, Texas, with producer Tim Kimsey (King Diamond, Mercyful Fate) and recorded their debut, For the Love of Pain. It can be purchased directly from this website (see ordering info below), at performances, and from area retailers and is distributed by BrainTicket Records.      &n bsp  VARNAM PONVILLE     &nb sp      & ;nbsp  SCOTT SHELBY           ZEB PERKINS     &nbs p      & nbsp    JASON THIBODEAUXAfter the release of the For the Love of Pain album, Cauldron played extensively for the next two years. At the beginning of 2000, they were set to enter the studio to record their next album when Jason Thibodeaux decided that he was leaving the band. For the next several years, Varnam and Zeb could not find a suitable replacement. They both decided to work on several other musical projects and to place Cauldron on hold until a drummer could be found. In 2005, Varnam re-grouped with his former bandmates in Gammacide for numerous reunion shows. The following year, Gammacide also played a small reunion Texas tour, and from this tour there was a new found interest in Cauldron. Zeb and Jason were both asked to reform the band, but neither showed any interest. Unfortunately, in August of 2007, Zeb committed suicide. Local musicians discussed putting together a tribute show to honor Zeb. From these discussions, Varnam was able to put together a new line-up. The band has been playing live since Nov. of 2007 and after a few personal changes the line-up now includes original LOVE OF PAIN drummer Jason Thibodeaux and bassist Ricky Perrera. Now with these more than able musicians CAULDRON has began where they left off and are now working on the long awaited 2nd CAULDRON record. With all the songs written the band plans to enter the studio in late 2009..
