WORLD PEACE THRU INNER PEACE!....DETAILS INSIDE!!

About Me

"The pessimist complains about the wind, the optimist expects it to change, the realist adjusts the sails."- William Arthur Ward, writer(1921-1994)....... So very true...who might I be? Probably a bit of all. I'm a humble, spiritual being digging the human experience...an evolving human having the spiritual experience.....more often than not:).....Right brained, left leaning...believer that laughter is the best medicine, it tastes better than cough syrup;D.....Eager and prone to take roads less traveled to places that are sun-kissed and water blessed or mountain laced and wooded place. Bright lights and the big city can be fun. The southwest desert country always beckons. I would not turn down a ride on a UFO. I'm ready to see other dimensions. I'm ready to embrace the new levels of awareness. I'm an eternal teenager with the wisdom of years of adult life experience, good, bad and ugly. Youth is indeed at times wasted on the young...and vice versa;P....I've learned to clean up well after myself, mentally, physically and spiritually....despite my white trash fashion sense;)...I have found that my concept of a God is.....simply and grandly....Love. Love is all there is. Forgiveness sets you Free. Fear traps you in a self made hell. I know religion has little to do with spirituality....I'm a realist and a surrealist....who is always optimistic while defining my reality.....Love is my fuel I suppose...when it's real it's never pessimistic. Love, not fear, fuels my evolution and my revolution.......And then again, on some days, I am a selfish, ego driven prick;D

My Interests

All the colors of the palette of life......music, performing arts, cinema, the great outdoors.......tantric adventures behind closed doors;).......Running, even when no one is chasing me, endorphin rush of a good workout, travel, inner journeys, vision quests, enlightenment and roads less traveled......vodka. Live bands, a cold one at a cozy club and a hot time with a cool lady. How "Rat Pack", beer commercial and cheesy does that sound?.... I truly like discovering interesting new people, places, things.....and myself. People with their heads up their own ass or anyone else's.....not so interested.

Movies:

Ingmar Bergman has ascended as the filmmaking diety that he is, leaving many disciples. Anything by Tarantino or Scorcese, Hitchcock and Coppola, Sam Peckinpah, Sergio Leone, and all the imitators;)....Werner Herzog films always impress me. Historic and post modern westerns from John Ford, Walter Hill, Henry Hathaway anything with the Duke, Clint Eastwood, Paul Newman, Brando, Steve McQueen..."The Proposition" a dirty dark magic Aussie western kicks ass...Actor turned director Peter Berg of "Friday Night Lights" fame seems to get it. Speaking of Billy Bob, yeah he's seen the dark and knows the light. James Mangold as well...... I dig any and all independent films and directors with attitude...flicks you can't find at Blockbuster sometimes, engaging documentaries, ambitous short films, b-films, c-films from the 60's and 70's, sci-fi classics, trash-plotation classics.....The genius of Fellini. Fantastical feasts from Romero, Ridley Scott, Lucio Fulci, Dario Argento.... cheesy and/or classic zombie and vampire flicks. Tony Scott's "The Hunger", Susan Sarandon and Catherine Deneuve making out, nuff said baby;)......British comedy and Asian horror gems....70's blaxplotation and 70's white trash action flicks.....A personal all time favorite and classic is "To Kill a MockingBird" it stands the test of time...."Cool Hand Luke" is a good ole chain-gang Jesus analogy and Paul Newman's best!..."Bullitt" for McQueen cool and the classic car chase..."Kill Bill" for Uma kicking ass...oh Uma baby!!...Coen Brothers, everything they do. "O Brother Where Art Thou" is priceless. 70's Clint Eastwood, the road story caper flick, "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" was pulp fiction before Pulp Fiction. A little southern modern classic shot in Louisiana in the early 90's, first role for a young Reese Witherspoon, "The Man in the Moon", try watching it without crying:)...."The Sons of Katie Elder", a western with John Wayne and Dean Martin and "The Cowboys", the first movie John Wayne died in, shot in the back by cowardly, cowboy hippie Bruce Dern. These are the last movies I remember seeing with my Dad before he passed away, he loved the Westerns and I love him eternally.....Just saw "What the Bleep Do We Know" and was blown away, a great and timely evolutionary documentary...buy it or rent it today and expand your conciousness!!!

Television:

It can be a window to the world or a mindnumbing blackhole. TV does not brainwash people, people brainwash people. Discovery, National Geographic, Travel Channel, Bravo, TLC, Food Network, A&E, HBO original series, Sundance Channel can be informative and sexy cool entertainment. The only episodic show I TIVO is "LOST"......the coolest, surreal drama on TV currently. I must admit also, the white trash karma comedy "My Name is Earl" cracks me up! Both of these shows deal with redemption, something I'm very familiar with.

Books:

"THE DISAPPERANCE OF THE UNIVERSE" by Gary Renard, a metaphysical eye opener that has me remembering and rethinking alot of things about love and forgiveness...on that same note, "The Course in Miracles", borrow it...buy it and study it, if so inclined! Miracles are just a change in thinking you know......"Conversations with God" by Neale Donald Walsh, makes more sense than anything in the Bible, as much soul psychology as spirituality....Wayne Dyer, Marianne Williamson and Deepak Chopra are enlightening teachers for me.... For good crime thriller fiction, I love award winning author James Lee Burke and his Cajun detective Dave Robicheaux series, set mostly in south Louisiana,...I am a sci-fi/horror and fantasy geek as well.....Tolkien, Robert Howard, Heinlien, Bradbury and Koontz are great and you can't beat Stephen King for the pulpy, fun, spooky stuff,... his latest "CELL" hits a nerve.....Everything by Hunter S. Thompson....R.I.P. sweet prince.

Heroes:

My dearly departed Dad, William Travis Akin or as everyone who really knew him called him, 'Trav'...his life here was cut way too short. My dad's little brother, Uncle Tommy Ray Akin aka TRA, a true hawg riding road rebel who was more like a big brother to me. He taught me that to score with the ladies I needed to be a man, not a punk. That dude could get laid at a lesbian convention. He's riding a Harley now, howlin' on a hallowed highway with a bodacious babe on the back:)...Grandpa Harris R.I.P. who taught an 11 year old me to drive in the parking lot of Schwegemanns supermarket in New Orleans. Charles Allen Thorn, Eagle Scout, lead singer of the former kick ass rock band Max and my best friend and brother....Scotti G aka G. Scott Griffin, my brotha' from anotha' motha'...By instinct, I pick up the phone daily to call you. How you doing bro'? We are all family forever.....Jesus, the REAL, liberal, non-denominational, non-political, love everybody Jesus,...Mother Teresa..Rosa Parks..MLK..JFK...Johnny Cash...John Lennon....I believe we should all be heroes to someone....even if it is just to ourselves:-)
