Average Joe
A long time collaboration of two long time friends. Some will say it was the drugs, other will say it was the rustic origins, and still others will hold it’s simple dementia praecox. No matter your view, Average Joe hold certain things to be of inestimable value, all of which inform the music, things like SPAM, electricity, cheap tobacco products, and undervalued gold stocks.
Jay Heet
Sprung from his mother’s loins in the Piney Hills of northwest Louisiana, Heet has had a long, checkered non-career in and around music playing guitar and bass for rock, R n’ B, country and blues groups that enjoyed, at most, mild success. While inhaling has irreparably damaged what’s left of his brain, he’s still smart enough not to dump his day job, just yet.
Mr Kite
Two things you’ll find in between Natchitoches and Alexandria - the Cane River and Mr Kite. Somewhere between the River and chasin’ dirt cheap thrills, K found music, a closet candy Strat, and went on to wow several over the years working in a number of groups. His natural born proclivity for tech stuff (like how to plug a guitar into an amp) has kept him and tech-loser Heet close friends.

Jay Say 11 - NOLA Redux

I guess I should have had a little more faith. Three trips to New Orleans over the last couple years had me thinking what NOLA used to be was gone, for good and forever.I might have been wrong.I mana...

Jay Say 10 - Died and Gone to Rocque’s

I waxed long and hard about honky tonks here before (Jay Say 6 - Honky Tonks and Heaven). And part of that was a whistful recollection of something I'd thought had passed on into such decline as to b...

Jay Say 9 - Bad Case of Writer’s Blog

Good lord but it's been a while since I tuned up the ole keyboard and told the world exactly what I thought about something of iffy importance. It's just that sometimes the world intrudes on the quiet ...

Jay Say 8 - Songwriting, by a Dummy

A couple people have actually asked me how I write these songs. I am flattered, almost beyond words. Mainly because I don't see my "songwriting" as anything unusually special. Yeah, I like my stuff...

Jay Say 7 - Drugs...and Music

So there I was, propped up in front of the modest sized flat screen, feet on the ottoman, flush with the satisfaction that only a barbeque chicken pizza can bring a man of my age, and watching the rat...

Jay Say 6 - Honky tonks & heaven

Some things just get inside you and never leave. Like your first kiss (unless it was your sister). The first day of school was sufficiently traumatic as to scar most of us. Getting a car and the rea...

Jay Say 5 - I don’t want to sound like SRV

Irascible. A word that seems to describe me rather perfectly, you ask some folks who know me well. Look it up and it says "easily angered; hot tempered". Most often folks use it when referring to m...

Jay Say 4 - Local, schmocal

Nothing like a road trip to clear the head. And with the miracle of Al Gore's internet, you can take off any dadburned time you want.As for instance, the list of "friends" on a myspace page.I don't k...

Jay Say 3 - Credit where credit is due: Buddy Flett

Almost anyone who's picked up a guitar in or around NW Louisiana in the last, uh, 30 years knows or knows someone who knows Buddy Flett, and whether they can articulate it or not, are better off for i...

Jay Say 2 - NOLA memories

It's January 15, and I can't help but think about New Orleans a lot these days. For those of you who are musicians, the storm and subsequent diaspora are probably nothing if not heartbreaking. Some of...
