As an active musician in the Boulder/Denver Metro area, Amy Shelley’s drumming has been described as innovative, creative, solid and very musical. She is currently involved with a number of bands spanning an impressive variety of musical styles and genres. She also freelances throughout the country.
When she is not performing or traveling to gigs, Amy teaches master classes and runs clinics in various schools throughout the Boulder/Denver Metro area. She has also taught at music camps and festivals across the country. Amy teaches private lessons to students of all ages.
Amy is also the Assistant Director and Sound Designer of the Evolving Doors Dance Project. Amy performed in their sold-out premier, "Pretty is as Pretty Does" in 2006 as well as their show "Flawless" in 2007 and is looking forward to continuing to aid in creating and bringing professional, evocative and political art in various forms to the public. Currently, Amy is working with the Artistic Director and Choreographer, Angie Simmons, to bring a full-evening length concert of new works to the East Theater of the Dairy Center for the Arts in November of 2008 in Boulder, Colorado.
Amy began playing drums when she was 11 in Riverton, Wyoming. In 1998 she moved to Boulder, Colorado to attend the University of Colorado, where she still resides. After obtaining her BM in percussion performance, with a certificate in jazz studies in 2002, Amy took a couple of years away from school to travel, play and teach. Then, she chose to attend the Boulder College of Massage Therapy where she graduated with honors in 2005. Amy currently is half-owner of the Energy In Motion Massage Studio, where she works with many musicians, dancers, and performing artists to create change and healing.
