DIE LAUGHING

COSMIC TECHNO DOOM

About Me

N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N DIE LAUGHING arose out of the ashes of a well dodgy Heavy Metal band from Plymouth, Devon known as PSYCHO DIRT PERPS. This consisted of IAN on vocals, COL on bass, KAVUS on guitar and TIM on drums. They played a handful of support slots in the late 80's riding high on the crest of the Thrash/Death Metal Scene but even at an early stage had an offbeat "quirkiness" about them due to the fact that a young Kavus was ALWAYS fascinated by an underground band known as The Cardiacs and in particular, their frontman Tim Smith whom he regarded somewhat as an idol. When an even younger DAN joined the band on 2nd guiter, the pair became inseperable, heavily influencing each other with their shared love of Classic/Progressive Rock and constantly working out more and more complex duo guitar parts. DIE LAUGHING properly started when Ian was replaced with JIM (SICKY) at the turn of the 90's, a well known face on the local gig circuit and a talented hallucinogenic-inspired Artist (a lot of his stuff was used in the bands Artwork, T-shirts and posters although Kavus was a pretty good Cartoonist also). This line up practised solidly and gigged throughout 90-91 eventually recording the classic "OmniGod" Demo and soon became darlings of the local Thrash fraternity. They even produced their own T-shirts and a local Fanzine "Extreme Diabolism" which gave coverage to themselves and all their local mates who played anything from Metal to Hardcore Punk and beyond! It was through this publication that they struck up a friendship with Earache labels "Hellbastard", Geordie Grindcore merchants and did a Mini Tour with them. Mashing it up n sharing gigs found them rubbing shoulders with Space Rock/Dub Reggae outfit OUR FATE, in particular their keyboardist Steve who added ambience to their second Demo "Artificial Playground", a milestone that carried them lightyears from the Death Metal genre, losing them a lot of fans in one field but gaining many in others. Heralded by ORGAN Fanzine the band started making waves in London. By now the Dan/Kavus songwriting team dominated the band even down to basslines and drum patterns and had no place for Sicky's Death Metal growls any more. Kicking him out caused a rift (Kavus & Dan took over vocals), enlisting MATT on keyboards meant more integral keyboard parts and their last Demo, "6 New Songs" is a masterpiece heard by few but a definite step toward their new direction. They split soon after, Dan forming the short-lived SQUID SQUAD with SARAH before they and Kavus moved to London to form the highly emotive MONSOON BASSOON. Kavus currently plays guitar in The Cardiacs (amongst many other bands!) and he and Dan are knocking out their new band, AUTHORITY..............WHO I'D LIKE TO MEET ;Anyone who cares to remember us and the hilarity that surrounded us.
