Carnival Kids formed in December 2006.
Chris Dashwood (Lead vocals & guitar) and Liam Hannan (bass, Casio & backing vocals) had collaborated before, as one half of York University’s indie darlings, 'The Memos' ( www.myspace.com/thememos ), who had the pleasure of playing many gigs in York and Liverpool supporting such acts as 'The Hair', 'Director', 'The Scarlet Tuesday', 'The Heights', and 'Dogs', before deciding to call it a day.
Fran Trewin (vocals & glock) and Drew Clarke (Drums & hat) were recruited to complete The Carnival Kids line up, the aim being to start a shit pop explosion from the ashes of The Memos that would take York (and the world…?!) by storm.
Carnival Kids set about writing their special brand of upbeat indie pop songs to get the people of York moving, with catchy tunes, meaningful lyrics and infectious harmonies that would have even the most stalwart of scenesters singing along and clapping his or her hands when they really should just be standing still with a cigarette lit beneath their asymmetric hair looking nonchalant in a corner.
Carnival Kids are a fun loving, toe tapping, hand clapping, music making, rule breaking four piece with bags of skill and talent. Having played numerous gigs in York, and despite still being in their infancy (a highlight being supporting The Answering Machine and Neon plastix), they’ve blown every venue apart, and have very intention to carry on in this vein.
Carnival Kids have just finished recording their three-track EP that is now available at every gig and through their myspace.
Their myspace is the best place to hear them. Keep an eye on the gig list. It looks like things are about to go nuclear...
