About Me

on "Evening Telegraph" (UK)

listed on NME (UK):

Hi! The Heatwaves is a band on a mission from God. So in order to spread their psycho-glamorous-vibrations to the largest possible audience, from the superficial distracted people till the funny boring intellectuals, their music fits as a soundtrack for a serenade, a party or a gun fire.
They have toured and headlined in UK playing in important venues in Camden Town in London (like Dublin Castle or Tommy Flynn’s) or in the Cambridgeshire (like Met Lounge) and in Italy playing in important venues in Rome (like Circolo degli Artisti, Zoobar, Traffic, Sinister Noise or Radio Cafè).
They shared the stage with international popular bands, like Blood Red Shoes (UK), and Italian ones as well, like Tre Allegri Ragazzi Morti (for a music festival with hundreds of people).
The band is formed by three Sicilians living in Rome who sometimes under the influence of mysterious magic powers (and a little bit of wine) seem to play like a variegated mixture of indie rock with influence from punk, ska, folk, hip hop, tango, samba, klezmer and very very romantic pop ballads as well, where the overall main features are catchy melodies, dance grooves and of course their funny folkloristic South Italian verve.
They started as a guitar-drums duo using to play in the streets during their travels around Europe, with musical influences both from mainstream bands, like the alternative pop of the past of Specials, Smiths or Velvet Underground, till the indie rock of these years of Strokes, Killers or Libertines, and less famous bands like Yume Bitsu, Van Der Graaf Generator or the Shaggs. After some time with the add of a bassist the line up become a power trio.
The name "the Heatwaves" was inspired by the European Heat Wave during the summer of the 2006, one of the warmest period ever for many countries, but it also recalls the heat effects on the body during "topic" joyful moments.
Not too trivial and not too intellectual, just three smiling mates with just the little wish to warm your ears, your eyes and your hearts. Amen x

ITALIAN VERSION
Ciao!
Amen!

REVIEWS/RECENSIONI

"This week the spaghettie indie pop ska sound of the amazing "Heatwaves" from Italy, cool italian charm meets quirky indie ska pop, boys and girls go wild for them. Heatwaves, our first new Tune of the Week for 2008 - check them out as they tour the UK and play london shows in March blast into 2008! Remember where you heard them first!" - Paul T, FMS agency (UK)

"The Heatwaves are an Italian punk, ska rock band with some catchy lyrics and bouncy rhythms. Made up of three Sicilian kids, The Heatwaves work an up tempo performance while mixing in some rock ballads into their arsenal. I would describe them as having Ramones like tendencies with a mix of European flavor. Their music is fun and they are quickly picking up a fan base away from home in places like England and the States. With performances at places like Circolo degli Artisti, Zoobar or Radio Cafè, the Heatwaves had an opportunity to spread their friendly sound to open ears."Cant Dose My Feelings" is a bouncy happy song with recurring lyrics throughout but remains quite enjoyable. "Your invitation can set on fire my obsession/your warm temptation may make me rise my "passion"", "Yeah do it do it! Betray your life and do it". It almost feels like if someone started a punk band and rocked out in the garage, only the band was talented and the songs were decently put together… did you get that?"Sometimes I Can't Find My Car" is another energetic song with bouncing guitar rhythms and consistent pace. Similar structure to the previous song with some more repetitive lyrics… "Love you love you la da da da da". A song about drinking red wine and sometimes not finding your car, come on… you got to appreciate that. And fans of Ska/ Punk will appreciate these Italians.I Love You I Hope You Don't Mind feels like a song about a passionate obsession. Once again, repetitive lyrics are reiterated here and show their love for this woman. "Yeah I would see my eyes with your eyes/and kiss my lips with your lips". Another catchy, poppy song.Check out The Heatwaves on their MySpace page listed above for some sample songs and news. It's quite an impressive version of Punk/Ska from these fellas from Rome; the accent really gives them a sweet sound. When you take a listen I'm sure at least one of these tunes will get stuck in your head… I'm struggling with that right now. The Heatwaves have been heard now it's time for my dinner, Pasta anyone? Mangia! Mangia!" " - Dan Rondinelli, Indie in Tune (USA)

"Picture the Pete Doherty of old, after a few pipes in the rawest of Babyshambles performances: very upbeat but raw as ya like. Fratellis type tunes but even the voice is distorted... Ramshackle charm in spades!" - Bugbear agency (UK)
