Immigrant Justice Solidarity Project

I am here for Serious Relationships, Friends and Networking

About Me

Immigrant Justice Solidarity Project (IJSP) is a NYC-based, all-volunteer collective that fights local manifestations of imperialism. We believe that communities directly impacted byimperialism must be at the forefront of this social justice movement. IJSP's structure reflects this by primarily supporting the leadership of low-income, people of color & immigrant, anti-imperialist community-based organizations (CBOs). In particular, we provideorganizational and movement support to two groups - Desis Rising Up & Moving (DRUM) and Domestic Workers United (DWU), for whom we focus our support efforts on legalization, just labor law and halting the criminalization of immigrant populations.
IJSP is a multiracial ally organization made up of less-affected members. For IJSP, the terms ally and less-affected mean that our members are not directly affected by the issues we work on. With this definition, we seek to leave space for anyone to join us. As less-affected individuals, we see our role as shaped by the needs of the directly-affected communities with whom we work. We maintain a vision aroudn ally involvement, prioritizing accountability and community building among ourselves in hopes to strengthen this movement. Through our work, we are attempting to develop a model for sustainable ally activism centered around anti-oppression and anti-imperialism.

My Interests

IJSP supports the work of:
*Desis Rising Up and Moving (DRUM): is a commuity-based social justice organization of low-income South Asian immigrants and immigrants facing deportation in New York City. Desi is a common term used by people of South Asian descent to identify as people from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, india, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and parts of the diaspora including Africa, England, Fiji, Guyana, and Trinidad. Our vision is to organize low-income South Asian immigrants for racial, economic, and social justice on critical local struggles and their global roots.

*Domestic Workers United (DWU): is a city-wide, industry-wide alliance of domestic workers and domestic worker organizations that have come together to gain respect and recognition for domestic workers, and establish fair labor standards in an industry where abuse and exploiration are the norm.

*Immigrant Communites in Action (ICA): ICA formed in January 2005 as the Queens Drivers License Coalition to build the pwoer of diverse immigrant communities in Queens and city-wide to drive back the attack on immigrants in New York and around the country. The coalition is made up of over 20 organizations of immigrants affected by this issue and non-immigrants concerned with the rights of immigrants.
