About Me

FIERCE! is a community organizing project for Transgender, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit, Queer, and Questioning (TLGBTSQQ) youth of color in New York City. We are dedicated to exploring and building power in our communities through a mix of leadership development, artistic and cultural activism, political education, and campaign development while taking care of ourselves and each other. We take on the institutions that perpetuate transphobia, homophobia, racism, ethnic conflict, gender bias, economic injustice, ageism, and the spread of HIV, STIs, STDs, and other mental and physical health crises — that make daily survival a terrifying challenge for many TLGBTSQQ youth. FIERCE! organizes against the injustices of the criminal "justice" system, housing, employment, education, and healthcare systems.

My Interests

PIER 45 CAMPAIGNWonder why the bathrooms close at the Christopher St. Pier so much earlier than the actual pier does? So does FIERCE. Last year our members fought hard to keep the curfew on the pier extended to 1:00am instead of 10:00pm. We won. We also fought for the bathrooms to stay open longer, and for more affrodable food options at the pier. We are still fighting for these basic things. We need ALL LGBT YOUTH OF COLOR to be in this fight with us. Whose pier? OUR PIER!

PIER 40 CAMPAIGN

How dope would it be to have a drop-in center at the pier for LGBT youth of color? At the same place you hang out with your friends, you could have access to direct service organizations, health clinics, job training, educational programming, and a warm, safe place to be yourself. Sounds pretty good huh? Unless we fight together this will never happen. The Hudson River Park Trust, a.k.a. the owners of the entire pier, is looking to make a profit by redevolping Pier 40 (the big pier to the left of Pier 45) . Those bidding on the property are not including the needs of everyone in the community - especially the young, the queer, and the non-white. Help FIERCE fight for a much needed and demanded LGBT youth drop-in center at the pier.

COPWATCHPicture this:

A West Village where

all LGBT youth of color know exactly what their rights are when speaking to the police

know their rights around illegal searches
know their rights about being stopped

or about their right to use public restrooms regardless of their perceived or actual gender identity.

Envision our community addressing the rising rates of police harassment and brutality through the use of community education, de-escalation tactics, and video documentation.

Through our Copwatch program, FIERCE is committed to creating a West Village that is safe for everyone, especially trans and queer youth of color who are often targeted by the police. We believe in educating our community about knowing our rights. We believe that police need to be held accountable for the harassment brought upon queer and trans youth of color.
