MONITOR THE MUSIC (by Omar Aguila)

About Me

Basically, the name Monitor was given to me a while back. It was based on a cartoon I created (see video), and it was also based on how I like to observe what's around me. Anyway, it evolved to MonitorTheMusic because my friends saw me more as a producer.
The word "Monitor" is as generic as "Sky", or "Flame"; however, the people behind those names are far from being generic. I have a great respect for those two individuals, because they helped nurtur the artist that I am now. So, if you don't like my craft. Blame the Flame and the Sky. (Just kidding).
Creating music to me is cathartic. It comes from my mind, my heart, and my soul. It's been in there brewing since the day I was born, only to be released it in the beginining of the new millenium. At first some of my friends don't know what to make of it. And being an artist, I don't really care what people think. Yes, it is nice to see if others appreciate what came out of me. But, it doesn't really matter whether people like it or not. It is my creation (a stepping stone of growth and self realization). However, it is interesting to unleash something I created, and see if it takes a life of its own. This form of expression has been a therapheutic release.
Some people asked me what is the purpose of me wanting to create music?
I responded, "Well, it's definately not about being famous or being admired, is it?"
May be, just may be, it's the feeling of wanting to be validated? Geez, does this mean that I am just like everyone else? Well, may be, or may be not. The only thing that matters is I know, I do exist.
I don't consider myself as an expert in my craft. Never will be, as long as it is a learning experience during the creative process; for which, I don't mind. No one is perfect, and there is always room for improvement.
With the current conflicts the world is facing, I wrote "Songs From The Sand". I tried to be objective with the subject matter. Mainly, SFTS was grey snapshot of the current mid-east crisis that had different POVs (point of view). Like the song "Oil", it's about the world addicted to oil, to a a little boy's POV, asking "Why do beautiful middle eastern women hide their beauty by being covered in sheets?" (in the song called "Little Sister"). Then there is song called "Guerilla in the Midst", which about seeing all the bad things in world through the television screen, which desensitize by too much information. The project was about understanding, compassion, and forgiving.
During finalization of SFTS, I took a break from writing. Thereafter, I came up with "Closure". It's still a work in progress, but the general idea is letting go of the old, to start something new.
Blah! Blah! Blah! Enough about me (Omar Aguila).
