The Nuclear Crayons were formed in 1981 by Lynch LaVoison and Darin Drake, quickly adding in Bernie Wandel and Kendal Church by 1982. They played the Washington DC Metropolitan area underground music venues from approximately 1982 through 1984. Places such as the 9:30 club, Marble Bar (MD), Gay Pride day, Lost & Found, and various sundry joints. The Nuclear Crayons released recorded music on Outside Records, a record company started and run by Lynch. The first release was a 7 inch EP called Nameless, followed by 3 songs on the Music Compilation named 'Mixed Nuts Don't Crack', and then finally a full album of their songs was released called "Bad Pieces Seen Delivering The Fortold Conclusion..." known now as just "Bad Pieces...". The Nuclear Crayons were later bootlegged in the Killed by Death compilation out of Germany (no folks, we were never contacted and gave no permission and we're pretty sure the bootleg is from one of the vinyls since our master tapes were safely secured in Arlington Virginia). Oddly enough the Nuclear Crayons found favor in the California College Radio stations. The songs Catwalk and Outsider made it into the top 40 in that venue. The band is currently disbanded but still in contact with each other and very interested in promoting education and truth about our music and history.
