Band Members: Lynch LaVoison aka Lara Lynch - Vocalist
Darin 'Flame' Drake - Guitar & Vocals
Bernie Wandel - Bass
Kendal Church - Drums and assorted noises
Influences: The band members had various influences that went into the unique and 'disturbing' sound of the Nuclear Crayons. Lynch was very influenced in her songwriting by depression, despair, paranoia & apathy and in her vocal performance she was influenced by the early 1980's HarDCore as well as in the vocal styles of Nick Cave & Nina Hagen. Bernie talked about John Coltrain quite a bit and his style is more from jazz than rock. Darin had a folksy guitar and voice plugged into overdrive & distortion. Kendal...that mysterious drummer, we admit some of his drums were trash cans. His influences are hard to determine but he did like to listen to the Velvet Underground.
Sounds Like: Nothing you've ever heard before, Jello Biafra called the Nuclear Crayons 'Disturbing'. Now if we can just find that review from 1982 Maximum Rock N Roll for a better description. The Nuclear Crayons sound like a cat fight in a jazz bar with two midgets jumping up and down with plastic trash cans. Lynch's vocals are anything BUT feminine, she growls, screams and gruffs her way through the songs.
