The Past
Moonitor initially started up back in mid 90's, then under the names Area51 and Sector9. Sebastian who until then worked mostly on the EBM/Industrial project Melt, got more into the groovy IDM/breakbeat part of the electronic music scene. While working on some tracks he met Andy, the leadsinger of the band Icon Of Coil, in which Sebastian is the programmer, songwriter and producer as well. They both started working on tracks for this fresh and innovative Norwegian project. After a while they finally had enough tracks to send out a demo cd to various labels. Shortly after they got a call from Virgin Records, Norway. Virgin wanted Sector9 to remix Norwegian pop artist Lene Marlin. But due to major success for that artist Virgin had no time to pursuit Sector9's potential.
Later Andy started working on his back then one man project Icon Of Coil, in which Seb joined 100% shortly after. Seb continued working by himself on evolving the sound of Sector9, which now was being renamed to the current name Moonitor.
Due to major success with Icon Of Coil, Sebastian had to put Moonitor on the shelf for a while to focus on working with Icon Of Coil, touring, working on albums and remixing. But Seb alwyas had ideas going in his creative musical mind, so Moonitor was never dorment. Mr.Komor had and have always had big ideas and hopes for Moonitor. So persistently Seb kept on exploring and digging for new and innovative ideas.
After sending out som mails to people around the world, Moonitor caught the attention of a canadian label ArtOfFact Records, based in Toronto. As ArtOfFact was about to release a new split cd, named U-Turn, Moonitor was contacted and asked to participate. So the Result is U-Turn 3: The Darkside Of The Beat(named after a Moonitor song). It outsold the previous U-Turn compilation and got blasing reviews worldwide, and Moonitor suddenly got a couple of clubhits (Non-Human and The Darkside Of The Beat). The tracks Telescope, Horizon Sun and Skydiver also contains the lovely/sensual voice of his wife Renee, who also joins Seb on stage.
The Sound
The sound of Moonitor is a blend of Sebs wide sense of music and sound design. Moonitor uses elements from EBM, Psychadelia, World Music and even breakbeats and ambience music. Moonitor is said to be very epic, yet hard and groovey, with killer baselines and beats. Moonitor likes to explore the sounds that can be synthesized and sounds from the world itself, making it all a blend of machine and man vs the world.
Remixes
Remix offers started to flow, among others: Juno Reactor, Psyche, Diskonekted, Implant and Aiboforcen were among the bands who went through the sonic lab of Sebastian as Moonitor.
