About Me

I'm a writer/editor who who has focused on Latino issues, conservation, travel, and erotica in my work (so far:-)). The first collection I co-edited, Border-Line Personalities, is a funny and diverse look at growing up Latina in the U.S that features several literary heavyweights, including Angie Cruz, Nelly Rosario, and Maria Hinojosa, just to name a few! It came out with HarperCollins-Rayo in July 2004. My next collection, Juicy Mangos, features seven incredible Latina authors who write smart, beautifully written erotica novellas. It comes out in July of this year. They're both fun reads! I'm looking to meet new friends and fellow writers here. Please let me know about your books...

My Interests

I'm pretty much a narrative junkie, whether it's film, great t.v. shows, or books, books, books. I also love live music, seeing animals in their natural habitats and long, rambling conversations. Like every other curious gal, I love traveling every chance I can.

I'd like to meet:

writers, readers, musicians, other artists, and new friends.

Music:

Original voices with plenty of groove and surprises, especially when genres are blended in an interesting way. Some old favorites: The Pixies, The Police, Prince. Some constant obsessions: Aterciopelados, Julieta Venegas, Cafe Tacuba. Some dear friends: Bryan Vargas & Ya Esta, Yerbabuena

Movies:

I love character-driven, compelling stories, especially when their matched with a beautiful vision, whether it's old-school Hollywood genius like Sunset Boulevard or new-school enchantment like Pan's Labyrinth, Volver, The Last King of Scotland. I even love blockbusters when they're well crafted. (Can't wait for Spider-Man 3!).

Television:

Veronica Mars, Medium, The Sopranos, Battlestar Gallactica, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, The Office (British and American), Extras

Books:

Wow, way too many to mention. I'm a book-a-holic. Let's just say anything by Alice Munro, JK Rowling, Micheal Cunningham and Daniel Alarcón are definitely my thing. (I'll be adding to this section!)

Heroes:

My heroes are those who force the world to look at things in a new way, no matter what danger or personal consequences they face as a result: Cesar Chavez, Digna Ochoa, Ingrid Betancourt, Ida B. Wells, Bobby Kennedy, Sherman Alexie, Ralph Ellison, Virginia Woolf, to name a few.
