Michael Bryers music is an eclectic mix of styles, country, roots, folk and rock.
Sadly there is no romantic tale of a child standing in front of the mirror dreaming of one day becoming a star. Closer to the mark, just a kid from a weatherboard street, who grew up fast discovering that the hardest way to learn was just give it a crack, fall on ya ass, get up and do it again just a little differently.
Paul Kelly changed his life musically sending him on a spiralling pursuit of the song and teaching him the art of a good tale, regardless of the outcome. Along the way John Prine taught him almost everything else.
Now Michael is a self confessed songwriter junkie, with a love for anyone with something interesting to say or play and furnishing his collection with the likes of Prine, Kelly, Kasey Chambers, Kevin Bennett, Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt, Slaid Cleaves, Patty Griffin, Gillian Welch, Ryan Adams and Todd Snider and thats just the first shoebox.
His first album release "Somewhere in Between" (his own perception of his position in the world) rewarded Michael with numerous songwriting and performance awards and a finalist nomination for a CCMA Golden Guitar for New Talent (Horizon Award) for which he graciously conceded defeat.
His second album "Frangipani" has just been released in Jan 2007 and by his own admission is a more personal and intimate exploration of himself and his view of the world.
