Preparation For Your Time In The Studio:
Here is a list that will help you prepare for and maximize the productivity of your
session. You can never be "too prepared."
1. Demos and Pre-Production
Getting your demos to us as early as possible is in your best interest.
This gives us time to prepare for your project and allows for the development of creative
ideas ahead of time that will make your recording interesting and unique.
2. Prepare Your Instruments
Please take the extra time and effort to get your guitars and basses set up and re-strung
by a professional. The extra $30 spent on setting up your instrument is completely worth
the cost. A well intonated instrument is a must in the studio.
As far as drums heads go, let us know before you change anything out.
3. Practice Makes Perfect
Take the time to practice. Really buckle down and go over every part with a
fine-toothed comb. Practice with the band, practice alone,
PRACTICE TO A CLICK and
practice on an acoustic or unplugged instrument so that you really have your parts laid
out smooth and clear.
Drummers especially -
PRACTICE TO A CLICK! You are not going to regret the hard work
you put into rehearsing your parts. A drummer can either make or break a great
recording.
4. Listen
Listen to what's going on around you. Make sure your part contributes to the song and
doesn't just take up space. Make sure it's not walking on the vocal or conflicting with
anyone else. Be creative. Experiment.
5. Careful Planning
If there is certain gear that you would like to use let us know ahead of time. If there are
parts or ideas that you would like to add aside from the abilities of the band i.e. studio
players, strings, beats, etc. give us some forewarning.
Always remember, the more efficient you are with the basics, the more time you have
for the fun and interesting things that make an album interesting.
