Saia Hanlon started making a lot of noise at an early age, as his father a well established Session player, he picked up his first pair of sticks at the age of 6 and has not put them down since. A continual flow and mixture of musicians always visited his home and he and his father that would jam with these unique groups of people for hours and would have an undeniably influence on Saia and shaped his interest too his taste of music.
After watching an array of musical instruments being played in the most natural of surroundings and with the strong relationship between him and his Father, Saia decided percussion was his passion. Tommy Hanlon (his father) was very supportive of his decision, to learn at such an early age and began to tutor Saia giving him the benefit of having constant hands on teacher. With all of his experience and wisdom, his father was not only Saia's teacher but also his inspiration.
From age 6 to 13 Saia worked and practiced in there so called studio at home and would often sit and watch his father's every move and later try to mirror what he did. Inevitably Saia formed his own band, and recorded his first album not long after. With this band they won The Battle of the Bands on the Gold Coast in 1997 and from there Saia entered two drumming competitions winning both that he had entered, which just added to Saia's growing self-belief and what he was doing.
Over the next nine years Saia played in a number of bands in Australia Europe and Asia and had the opportunity to Perform the skill and styles of well established artists, such as Tony Lee Scott, Ricki Lee, American Singer and Guitarist Malina Moye, Jazz Guru Eva Brekon and many others also working with Major Labels and hard work built up a growing reputation as a solid reliable drummer.
Nowadays Saia is currently teaching and working with Jazz Works Brisbane and Youth Orchestra, headlining for main acts on the Gold Coast at The Broadbeach Blues Music Festival which has attracted over 200,000 people since it’s inception in 2002 making this a world class event.
