YUKARI FLUTIST, COMPOSER“Yukari plays a delightful flute†quoted in boudica’s music review.
NY based, japanese born Yukari, began classical piano lessons at 5 and classical flute at age 10. While pursuing to be a classical pianist, perform piano sonata “Appassionata†by Beethoven at Steinway hall in Tokyo.After receiving B.A. from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies in sociology/international relationship, Yukari embarked on a novel approach to re-immerse herself in world music. She backpacked over 20 countries including India, Bali, Europe, Morocco, Turkey playing with local musicians to gain experience and pay her way. While in Puerto Rico she performed with Fania All Stars.Yukari’s performing and recording career ranges from Jazz, Improvisational music, Chamber and Orchestral music, Brazilian & Latin music, Flamenco, Electronic music, Funk, Rock, Pop, R&B, theater music to meditation music. Yukari has performed at NYC top-notch clubs such as Blue Note, Dizzie’s club and performed with the great musicians such as Lonnie Plaxico, Jason Linder, Danny McCaslin, Richard Bona, Bobby Humphrey. French sculptor Alain Kirili, who collaborated with Ornette Coleman, Cecil Taylor has also collaborated with Yukari.“Yukari's SPICEPOT" was founded and released 1st album and performed at Tribeca Film Festival and toured to Amsterdam and Japan. She is recording on the 2nd chamber jazz CD. Yukari’s composition credits for meditation CD and a theater play entitled THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE NO PLACE directed by Jenn Ben Yakov performed at Stahlhouderij Theater in Amsterdam.Received an outstanding musicianship award from Berklee school of music and attended the workshop organized by Center for Improvisational music. Currently studying jazz at Manhattan School of Music. She has studied with Steve Willson, Dick Oatts, Jason Moran, Greg Osby and Linda Chesis, Nils Vigeland.
