1997-1999 Scott started his musical career at Selkirk College in Nelson B.C. Having played guitar, piano and drums in addition to singing in choirs, Scott decided to audition for the school on bass knowing that there would be more playing opportunities involved. Scott went on to play in numerous ensembles and bands of all styles including rock, jazz, funk and world music. Scott played on studio projects in the schools recording facility and studied theory, arranging, film scoring and performance. Scott also performed in and around the Nelson area as well as towns in the surrounding Kootenay region. Scott played a live televised benefit show called Music Feeds in both Trail B.C. and Nelson. The show was aired on Shaw cable for two weeks.Scott moved back to Vancouver after completing two years of the Selkirk music program. Scott briefly joined local ska/funk/punk band The Smoking Frogs. The band recorded a three song demo at Beatty Lane Studios and then, due to internal pressures, the band split up in the fall of 1999. Scott took a year off to find work and hone his musical skills. It wasn..t until the fall of 2000 that Scott started performing again. First, with jazz saxophonist Larry Volen and then with local jazz/funk outfit The G-String Band. The band played a regular gig at Carnegies, a local jazz club for almost a year as well as trips up the Sunshine Coast playing in Powell River, Lund and on Savary Island.
The band recorded a four song demo at CDIS recording school but then split up in the fall of 2001.Scott and the drummer of the G-String Band, Nathan Jacobsen, decided to form a new funk/disco/electronica/rock band called Remedy X. The band started out just improvising in clubs around town including Carnegies and the Side Door as well as club dates in Powell River where Nathan is from. The band eventually got a complete lineup (saxes, guitar, vocals, keys, turntables) and started doing serious gigs at the Side Door, Cafe du Soleil, The Silvertone Tavern, a regular gig at the Lamplighter, Diversity, an outdoor rave festival on Texada Island and Aquatica, a New Years gig at the Vancouver Aquarium. The band recorded a 5 song EP at SOS studios and other demos at Columbia Academy recording school as well as CDIS (now called AI)
During this period, Scott got hired to do a televised band contest called the Great Canadian Music Dream with local singer/songwriter MLE. The show took place and was taped at the Centre For The Performing Arts in Vancouver and included acts such as The Swollen Members and the Borealis String Quartet. The show was aired on CBC Television in January 2003. Scott also recorded some demos with singer/songwriter Scott Fairbairn at The Armoury Studios in addition to playing on Greg Kelly..s album in late 2003. During this time, Scott also had a regular gig at the Nelson cafe in downtown Vancouver with singer/songwriter Cody Westman playing covers and originals.
Remedy X split up in the summer of 2004.That same summer Scott gigged with Headquarters, a cover band which played classic rock, r&b and funk. Scott and Cody Westman also opened or blues legend Leon Russell at Richards on Richards in Vancouver in August of 04... Scott played on Codys record Just Like That in December of that year. Also in 2004 Scott had joined rock band Nomadic Sanctuary and played some gigs at the Media club and Crabfest, a concert for the Downtown Eastside community on Canada Day. The same gig also happened in the summer of 2005.
That same summer Nomadic Sanctuary also played Retrofest, an outdoor festival in Chilliwack which featured Blue Oyster Cult, Jefferson Starship and Edgar Winter.
In November of 2005, Nomadic opened for Nick Gilder and Sweeney Todd at the Act Theater in Maple Ridge B.C. That December, Scott played on Cody Westman's EP "Lean In" which was engineered and produced by keyboardist/producer John Webster.
