Hi there friends, thoughts dearest to my heart and acquaintances,
My name for thoughts who don’t yet know me is Carmen Bonnici and I am a self taught abstract artist, writer, and lover of poetry.
Apart from that I am a sexy, happily independent single forty some think woman, who is of strong character, stubborn as a mule and passionate as a red blooded filly.
I also consider myself to be a true pioneer and survivor of the female race.
My proudest and most rewarding achievement in my life is undeniably my beautiful daughter, who thankfully has inherited all her mothers’ perfect genetic ness.
I was born from an Italian Mother and English father and I spent the first twelve years of my childhood growing up in Western Australia.
Having immigrated with my family to W.A as a baby, I spent my first three years of childhood living in a remote mining village called Kargoolie where my father worked in the gold mining industry. The following years of my life would be spent commuting between Geraldton W.A and the exotic abrohlis Island, living four months of each year on big pigeon Island. My father, then a very successful self employed Cray fisherman was my role model teacher in the art of survival. In between receiving home schooling on the Islands I loved to spend time fishing in the beautiful Abrohlis waters with my family, and enjoyed the freedom of Island life collecting an assortment of wild abandoned animals and birds along the way as well as daring to swim amongst the sharks and many exotic creatures to be found in the Indian Ocean waters. As a teenager I grew up in the north east of Scotland on my parent’s forestry plantations, where I found myself constantly surrounded by even more strange and wonderful animals such as my pet gerbil called Mr. Tickle and my pot bellied pig called Mr. Tripe. My favorite pet being my beloved ferret called Sammy who sadly came to a sticky end while chasing a rabbit out of a rabbit hole. Sadly Sammy was shot in the head by her father’s friend who unfortunately mistook poor Sammy for the rabbit.
Apart from my menagerie of pets my other love was reading and I would delve in all my favorite books for hours on end. My favorite books were Nancy Drew, Brea Rabbit, The famous five and Secret Seven, and not to forget my obsession with horses and show jumping books.
Going to jumble sales with my mother and hunting out every antique ball gown in the church halls was another of my passions due to my love of dressing up as old movie stars such as Marilyn Munro and Elizabeth Taylor.
When growing up I always wanted to be a country and western singer, apart from also wanting to be a show jumper, Red Indian and ice skater. My favorite subject at school was sports and art but I hated school intensely in my teenage years and the sensation of being locked up all day filled my days with dread. Discovering the only way to survive school was to spend my day’s day dreaming of
Becoming a famous show jumper, I tried to compensate the boredom and the constant bullying by writing romantic poems behind my school desk as well as hiding out in the cloak room reading Nancy Drew.
Being a life time migraine sufferer, I would often use it to my advantage and became a regular visitor too the school sick bay where I enjoyed pigging out on polo mints and
Wine gums.
Leaving home at the age of nineteen, I went through life drifting like a butterfly through clouds of mixed emotions and experiences, endlessly searching for the ultimate dream and searching for eternal happiness and love.
At the age of twenty five I finally agreed after endless proposals of marriage to marry
A miner’s son who was totally unsuitable for a woman of my culture, good morals and education.
My marriage as predicted was a disaster and after eight years of discovering the meaning of hell in the form of a Norman Bates double, I fled for my life and never looked back.
However thank god for small mercies as from my disastrous marriage came a beautiful gift, my beloved daughter, who not only is a vision of beauty but has turned out to be my savior, adviser, best friend and little sister.
After spending so much of my life trying to defy the meaning of love and life I had finally found it through motherhood, and inner happiness.
Having formed a special bond with my daughter, we have the most unique love and friendship any mother could wish for.
Having home schooled my daughter right through her school years, we spent many a happy year living in Truro Cornwall.
From then on we traveled through Europe experiencing different cultures and countries. The last seven years we have lived in Andalusia in a lovely Spanish town.
However having suffered a terrible traumatic experience whilst living in Andalusia six years ago that left us both devastated, I was encouragement by my lovely daughter to take up painting as a form of therapy.
After several disastrous attempts I finally discovered my love of abstract art and from then on every time I held my paint brush in my hands it all just seemed to flow.
Having had nine successful exhibitions in Spain and two in Los Angeles California I have now decided to take my art to a higher level.
Now I have been fortunate to have been offered an exhibition in one of the top galleries in New York, i.e. Agora Gallery in the Soho District of New York.
I have sold over 47 pieces of art in the last three years of becoming a professional artist and I am convinced I’m being channeled by someone from the spiritual world.
Abstract Art for me is something very spiritual and emotional and something that should flow and come from within. It should always be original and authentic.
For me abstract art is a journey of spiritual love, its ones feelings and emotions on canvas. It is a relationship of love affairs and a never ending spiritual journey and learning experience. It is raw emotion on canvas and it breaths life in every form.
Even for people who don’t understand or even like abstract art there is still something in an individual piece of art work that a person can relate to feel emotionally or spiritually moved by.
When all is said and done, my work is about me as an individual, about my life, loves and passions, my pain and suffering, joy and happiness expressed through my art.
When I sell a piece of art to a private customer, I’m not just selling them a piece of unique art work, but also a part of myself as an individual person and a part of my soul.
What is more important to me than the sale of my art work or the recognition as an artist, Is the reassurance that every piece I sell is going to be loved and cherished and most importantly respected.
If you are interested in purchasing a painting from my collection, you can contact me by writing to me at
