Promoting up and coming unsigned bands in Dublin

About Me

Welcome to Dublin Underground!
Here on our MySpace pages you'll find listings for our showcase gigs aswell as reviews and features on up and coming bands playing around Dublin. We rotate our featured bands in our player, so check back regularly to hear our latest recommended bands and show some love to the bands you like!
We welcome input from anyone who enjoys the underground music scene in Dublin, whether you follow one particular band or several, or just like to catch as many local gigs as you can. In particular, we are always interested in having independent reviews of the gigs we run, so if you'd like to nominate yourself as one of our showcase gig reviewers, then get in touch!
ATTENTION DUBLIN BASED BANDS!
If you're in a Dublin based band (whether only starting out and trying to get your first gig or looking to build your existing fan base by playing around the city), drop us a message with some basic info about the band - genre, previous gig experience if any, when you formed, band line up, aswell as a contact phone number. We run gigs in the following venues (among others): Eamonn Dorans, The Voodoo Lounge, The Boom Boom Room, Radio City/Isaac Buttes, The Sugar Club, Whelans, The Hub and Crawdaddy.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL THE VENUES WE DEAL WITH HAVE A STRICT OVER 18's POLICY FOR BOTH BAND MEMBERS AND PATRONS
And if you're interested in having one of your songs featured in our player, send an mp3 of your strongest song to [email protected]. We will rotate the tracks regularly and will pass on any feedback we get from listeners. Feel free to include songs lyrics and some info about what inspired the song if you wish and we'll include that aswell.
FREEBIES!!!
Want to get on the guestlist for Dublin Underground gigs? Just email [email protected] or message us on MySpace with the subject line 'Guestlist me!' and we'll randomly select 20 people for each gig who'll get in absolutely free!!! (please make sure to include your FULL name in the email).
And for any band who has played a Dublin Underground gig before, band members can come to any of our showcase gigs for free (please make sure to tell us in advance that you will attend a gig via text, email or on myspace and we'll add you to the guestlist).
BATTLE OF THE BANDS
Dublin Underground will be kicking off it's inaugural Batttle of the Bands shortly so if you'd like to take part, then all you have to do is send an e-mail to [email protected] with the following information:
- Band name
- Band members (full name & instrument played)
- Age range of band members (ie, youngest & oldest)
- Style of music
- Link to your music online
- Contact name & mobile number
- Location
- Comments or anything we'll need to take into account for set up (ie, left-handed drummer, more than 2 guitar amps used etc)
There is a €20 entry fee. Full backline consisting of a drumkit, 2 guitar amps and a bass amp will be provided on the nights.
COMPETITION FORMAT:
The basic format for the qualifying heats will be a mix of crowd voting & judges (selected from the media, recording studios & established bands who have worked with Dublin Underground before). This process will be used to choose winning acts on each nite who go straight thru to the next round. Additionally there will also be a second chance for bands who don't make it thru to try again at a later date.
And to ensure the best bands get thru, there will be a multi-voting system which means that everyone will be provided with a voting card at the door and will be required to list their top five (or a minimum of their top two) bands on the night, not just their friend's band. Any voting cards with only one band/act listed won't be counted!
The majority of the heats will be held in The Voodoo Lounge and Eamonn Dorans in Dublin, aswell as other venues around Dublin city centre later in the competition.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL THE VENUES WE DEAL WITH HAVE A STRICT OVER 18's POLICY FOR BOTH BAND MEMBERS AND PATRONS
PRIZES:
The overall prize will be to record a radio quality single and a single launch nite for the winning act at Whelans or The Sugar Club.
Runner up prizes will include discounted recording rates for all finalists.
And there will also be prizes for best in each category for acts that may not have made it all the way to the final, broken down into:
- Best Acoustic/Singer-Songwriter
- Best Indie/Alt-Rock band
- Best Heavy Rock/Metal Band
- Best Hip-hop/Rap/Other

My Blog

Radio City, July 6th - Aquilla, Kanina, Audium

First up we had Audium, playing acoustically in the absence of their drummer. Despite their onstage rumblings that what the audience was being treated to tonight wasn't quite the 'real' Audium experi...

The Voodoo Lounge, June 18th - Saccade, Alchemy, Vinyl Moon, Sound Of Soul, Alan Kavanagh

It's a truth universally acknowledged that every Dublin punter is in want of a good, unpretentious Dublin night out; a Dublin pub, in semi-darkness with low light, pints, the promise of a late night s...

Eamonn Dorans, June 25th - The Eskies, Velvet Strand, Roulette, David Morris

Up first was acoustic act David Morris to ease the crowd into the night. Irish singer/songwriters are hardly few and far between these days and given that the tradition of storytelling ...

The Voodoo Lounge, June 5th - Voodoo Jack, Japanese Toys, Tarrintino

After a later start than expected, Tarrintino took to the stage. At first this 4 piece didn't really impress me. They didn't seem to have that "thing" that makes me enjoy a band. The drums seemed ver...

Metal Night @ The Voodoo Lounge, June 1st - Odium, Wyvern, Alchemy

First up we had Alchemy, a punk meets metal meets classic rock 4-piece hailing from the midlands but currently based in Dublin. Alchemy set the bar for the night giving a rocking performance which lef...

Templebar Music Centre, May 30th - The Chase, Fusion, The Way, Stephen Rooney

First up was Stephen Rooney, a singer/songwriter with a sound which brings James Blunt immediately to mind, with just a hint of Nick Cave thrown into the mix for good measure. Stephen is a competent v...

Dorans, May 22nd - Stillroom, Lauren Guillery & The Claws, Ka-tet, Dylan Walshe, David Morris

David Morris got the evening off to a start in an unusually clean Eamonn Dorans! With punchy guitar and decent arrangements, there's no doubt that a backing band would help David's music grow, also he...

Boom Boom Room, May 25th - Audium, Voodoo Jack, Ramparts, Alan Tully

Alan Tully kicked off the night in The Boom Boom Room. My first impression was that this young fella was very popular, due to the amount of friends he managed to drag to the gig . I heard the first so...
