DEBUT ALBUM 'EITHNE' OUT NOW!!

About Me

A multifaceted singer-musican who, during live performances at times seems to slow time and open spaces and create, through the transcendent quality of her voice and an arresting stage-presence, an intimate and delicate bond with audiences. Boundaries bend and sometimes break allowing artist and audience to travel together and experience ‘the music of what happens’ – a specturm of heartfelt emotion ranging from the raw and painful to places of joy, beauty and inner peace.Eithne is at home in the traditional arts of Ireland. She sings in Irish and English, plays exciting fiddle music and also accompanies her singing with piano and guitar - all with a natural lightness, grace and ease. While drawing deeply on her heritage, she lives in the present and performs in a modern context. She is a contemporary singer-songwriter, one who is inspired by a wider world of music and song and who, on her journey of musical exploration, has embraced and incorporated elements of the related Scottish and Appalachian traditions and echoes of the wonderfully vibrant, exciting and colorful culture of India.Eithne, her debut album, features a selection of this diverse repertoire. So far this year, Eithne has toured Germany and Ireland and will be touring Australia and New Zealand in the Autumn...

Sounds Like: “Ambitious and eclectic, debutante Eithne Ní Chatháin stretches herself to her outer limits, cherrypicking from some of the finest songs and tunes in the English and Irish tradtions. Her mournful, unadorned reading of Fáinne Geal An Lae is particularly affecting, and her musky interpretation of Sandy Denny’s Who Knows Where the Time Goes is evidence of a keenly tuned ear. Sweet echoes of Gillian Welch and Alison Krauss haunt Pretty Bird.”- Siobhán Long, The Irish Times, 2/3/’07
