Violinist and Singer Sonia was only a teenager when she made her Carnegie Hall debut solo concerto performance with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra performing Mozart's Concerto No. 5 under the direction of Semyon Bychlov. She subsequently was asked to play with the New York Symphony Orchestra performing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto under the direction of Gerard Schwartz at the 92nd Street "Y".At 15, Sonia enrolled at Juilliard and went on to tour in Europe at the Evian Festival in Evian, France and in Germany with the American Sinfonietta performing the Barber Concerto on their 1991 European Tour.At age 21, Sonia joined the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and went on to become their youngest principal violinist at age 23 under Jukka Pekka Saraste. Her debut with the Toronto Symphony caught the attention of the media- the Toronto Star hailed her as "...a real find for the orchestra." and the Globe and Mail described her performances as "...achieving a strangely beatific state."Other performances with artists of not include Brian Wilson, the Three Tenors (Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras) by age 24 and she since has appeared with Don Henley, Joni Mitchell, Rod Stewart, Diana Ross, Holly Cole, Harry Connick Jr, Three Dog Night, Chantal Kreviazuk and Josh Groban.Sonia started her own record label in 1998 called Buzz Music. Her debut release was entitled "Buzz" and features her playing on electric violin and singing. Her second CD, "Sweet", was released in February of 2004. It features her on jazz violin with the Bob Mervak Trio performing selection of jazz standards, including: "My Funny Valentine", "Don't Get Around Much Anymore", "As Time Goes By" and "Our Love is Here to Stay". Sonia has also crossed over into the Hip-Hop world, performing and appearing in the video for Maestro, "Stick it to Your Vision" which debuted at No. 1 on Canada's Hip-Hop charts.As a recipient of the Bravofact Award of $25,000 to assist Canadian artists, Sonia was able to star in her own crossover music video called "The Kiss", which was the first single to be released from her debut album, "Buzz".In addition to music, Sonia has made modelling appearances for NOKIA cellular phone advertisements. She now resides in Detroit, Michigan where she is currently in the studio working on her third album and is in preliminary talks with Dominic Miller, guitarist for Sting, to work on her next project.
