About Me

THE GIRL:
I like a cold beer during a nice sunset. I can't breathe very well unless there's music playing. I miss my mom and dad back in Chadron, Nebraska, and I'm probably too old for the teddy bear that I sleep with. My socks never match. I love good food, but can live on eggs, nuts and berries for several weeks. My guitar is one of my best friends, but it's my personal goal to have 8,650,345,421 friends on MySpace, so I'll add pretty much anyone. Except jerks. And you're no jerk, right?
THE MUSIC:
Martin, a native of Nebraska, has been playing in and around Los Angeles for the last seven years. She has rocked stages from the legendary House of Blues and the Viper Room to the intimate Ghengis Cohen and Hotel Cafe.
Martin has exceptional range and variety in her vocal qualities, and has been active singing for several producers and jingle houses on private and commercial projects. Most recently, she sang a session for Dreamwork’s Shrek the Third. Tide and Moon, a collaborative effort with Harry Gregson-Williams, was featured in the independent movie, The Uninvited. Her song, Break Away, was featured in a 2006 episode of the WB’s Related. And in 2005, Martin starred in Echo’s Hammer, an original stage production by Ken Roht at the Boston Court Theatre in Pasadena. As Amazement, a singing deity hovering hauntingly above the stage, she was acclaimed as “fearless and extraordinary” by David C. Nichols of the LA Times.
August 2005 marked the long-awaited release of Martin’s debut ep, Live Sessions. Recorded earlier that year in a home studio, the process entailed only three well-placed microphones while Martin played until she was satisfied with one complete take. It is a remarkably honest and intimate recording, almost as if Martin were singing in the same room with you. "I chose these songs for the ep because I knew they could speak well for themselves without any major production or additional instrumentation. And as a debut effort, I wanted to show exactly what I do, a precise representation of myself and my music thus far."
Martin is currently at work with producer Sjoerd Koppert on her first full-length record at Tantrum Records in Montecito, California. The recording will be a mixture of Martin’s alt/country roots and the torch-inspired rock and roll she is known for.
Martin has a presence to behold on stage, invoking the mood of Nico and Marianne Faithful, with the vocal range and shock-value of Bjork. Even through the haunting melancholy of songs like Last Kiss or the bittersweet Wish, the listener takes away a sense of hope from Martin’s writing--heartbreak and loss muddle up with covert optimism. Martin is just an unbelievably raw, honest and true storyteller, a singer/songwriter whose work is really reaching out to people.
