FFM is a Canadian singer-songwriter trio based out of Vancouver B.C. Michael Friedman , Mark James Fortin and Sam Masich have been honing their folk-noire, acoustic-soul project in Canada, Germany and the USA. Two European tours and dozens of small venue concerts have helped the team to shape a sound which is rich in three-part harmonies, and textured with layered acoustic guitar.

The group started writing together in 1999 and gave occasional concerts as their repertoire of original material increased. Though a side project for each of the members, FFM has been well received anywhere they have performed and live-off-their floor recording FFM Live+ has sold well without distribution. The trio’s main strength lays in its driving, tender, often sardonic and satisfying songs. FFM songs plumb the depths and stretch toward the heights of what makes humans humans... even Martha Stewart.

Part of the ‘New Acoustic' school, Michael Friedman brings to the trio a powerful voice, an eclectic guitar approach and a mature, almost pianistic writing style. Educated in the Berlin Music Conservatory during the G.D.R. era, Michael’s perspectives on music are unique among Canadian singer-songwriters. He tours in Europe extensively and has three albums under his belt.

M
Sam Masich wrote the lion’s share of lyrics on Friedman’s last two discs, Diamond Space and Angst Ridden Writer. Masich, who is also well known for his solo work and collaborations with jazz vocalist Christine Duncan, has some 100 of the nearly 400 songs in his catalogue published on 13 discs. Where the hell is FFM?

In the midst of babies and airports, pounding nails and drawing swords, FFM is still (occasionally) making music. It's tricky getting three family guys together, what with solo careers and all the rest...
