"Here I Am is Easily One of The Best Albums of 2007, Period."
By John Book, Music for America
"If you've made it through this point in the column so far, you will notice that there's a lot of Canadian music being reviewed. Let's add another by a woman who has been making music since the early 90's, but was unfamiliar to my ears until recently. I will have to say this, the reason by Bonnie Ste. Croix has been around for so long is due to how moving and powerful her music and voice is. Here I Am (self-released) may become one of my favorite albums for a few reasons. Her voice is very moving in the Sarah McLachlan sense, but that was a first impression. As one takes a more intense listen to her music, one gets a better impression of her as a singer, and perhaps as a person. When the album begins with the title track, the listener is off for a ride that is a joy to be a part of. She's a woman who doesn't like to stay around in one musical place at any given time, one song may be awash in lush keyboards, another may have crispy beats sampled and looped while a mandolin and slide guitar dance with each other, other times she may reach for the heartstrings with a country song, as she does in "Stay". Then she'll turn around and head towards the darker depths of electronica in "Another Day", and that's the exception to the rule, most of her music is rootsy and organic Even when she does go electronic or does a song that may display a bit of Pink Floyd's "Welcome To The Machine" in the shadows, her voice remains the same in any texture, sounding comfortable in each one. There's a confidence in her voice that is very warm, and while she may reveal lyrics that touch on uncertainty and fear, Here I Am proves that this is her on her own path, walking down fearlessly."

Biography
Described as a prolific and introspective writer, Bonnie Ste-Croix’s songs are fresh emotive expressions of the human experience delivered in her distinctive fusion of Contemporary Roots and Indie Pop. With her soulful vocals, this charismatic performer is most known for her ability to charm and silence a room with even her most unassuming performance. The mark of audience appeal is attested in her current airplay in Canada, Europe and Australia on radio from AC to College to R&B. On stage, Ste-Croix has a talent that alludes to a comfort born there, with an instinctive ability to reach audiences personally and profoundly captivating them through the unlikely synthesis of offbeat humour, insight and “…a voice that will stop you in your tracks” F. Hughes, Vancouver Courier.

Her first record, Flying High, sold faster than she ever dreamed. Ste-Croix found herself scrambling to keep CD’s in stock, gaining mainstream airplay, being signed by Sony in Germany, Switzerland and Austria; on an album with Valentine Records out of Singapore distributed in Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, China and Korea and being courted by labels out of L.A., San Francisco, Vermont and Florida. Summer June, further unleashed her career Internationally; catapulting her to new industry heights including film placement, video production offers, wide international fan response through web-based efforts, international contest winnings, and mainstream radio airplay garnishing critical recognition as a songwriter by audiences and industry alike.

In 2007 Bonnie released Here I Am created with award-winning producer, Bill Buckingham and featuring the talent of Robbie Steinnegger, Geoff Hicks, Lee Oliphant and Sue Leonard. By far her strongest album yet, Here I Am offers a string of insightful yet accessible songs that re-define the Indie tradition and transcend its boundaries making it sure to become her trademark and an industry groundbreaking album. In April 2007, Bonnie was added to the rosters for two companies, in Hollywood and in Michigan who will non-exclusively represent her for film and television placement. The first inaugural reviews on Bonnie’s new album offered:

“Here I Am" has very nice feeling and mood to it. The vocals are great and suit the material very well. Her voice is very reminiscent of Sarah McLachlan at times but it somehow manages to keep its own identity. The instruments are exceptionally played…The production on the tracks is done well and the drums also have a nice sound…with a few extra instruments/sounds that give it a little bit of an edge over a lot of other singer-songwriter music out today. All the songs are musically and lyrically different and original. Some have catchy hooks in the choruses and verses; are quite accessible and all so easy to listen to Fifty Fifty Music New York, NY

“ Ste-Croix is a talented singer-writer whose latest CD, Here I Am, neatly balances serious pop with a rootsy type of rock. Nicely done.” Tom Harrison, The Province.

“The Gaspé, Québec native possesses the songwriting prowess of storytellers Dar Williams, Shawn Colvin and Tom Waits, with an immediately recognizable, smoky voice that fluctuates between a sensual bluesy Bessie Smith, an assertive country-tinged Mary Chapin Carpenter, and a heartfelt acoustic rocker Sarah McLachlan.” B.L. Whitehall, Extra West

. "Produced by Vancouver's Bill Buckingham and featuring some of our best players, this is a rich amalgam of writing styles from a fine singer (with)…songs like 'Berry Point Road" showing loving attention to craft." John McLaughlin, The Province

"Bonnie's thoughtful, self-penned creations blend contemporary and soul music, delivered in a voice possessing the anguish of Annie Lennox, the passion of Chrissie Hynde, and the tender innocence of Janis Ian."
Brenda L. Whitehall, The Georgia Straight

"Ste-Croix wanders around soul-deep like Christine McVie but with a rain and sunshine coast Shari Ulrich-like sensibility."
Warren Footz, SEE Magazine

"Bonnie Ste-Croix evokes big-city paranoia and does a credible Fiona-Apple-in-detox on "Another Day."
Shawn Conner, The Georgia Straight

"I met Bonnie Ste-Croix when I attended the Music West Conference in Vancouver as a speaker and a panelist. By far the most promising talent I heard that day was Bonnie Ste-Croix and the feedback from the other panelists confirmed that my opinion was shared by the others… I consider myself a fan."
