DÃN - fine Irish Music: The Story
In 1991 Johannes Mayr, Jørgen W. Lang, Elke Rogge and Olav Krauss founded one of the most innovative german Folk Bands: Hoelderlin Express .
Almost 15 years later Johannes and Jørgen joined forces again. This time they use music from Ireland, Scotland and other "celtic" countries as a foundation for their unique interpretation of traditional music. Together with Franziska Urton on Fiddle this is one of the most exciting Folk bands coming out of Germany in the last decade: DÁN .
2006 saw the release of their highly acclaimed debut CD "Stranger at the Gate". Again, crossing borders is part of the concept. Pieces like "May Song/Hares on the mountain" build a bridge between German an English musical traditions, while "New Üzemel" (now available in the player!) prooves that the old "Hoelderlin Express spirit" is still alive. Their delicate arrangements of old and new tunes show musical skill and sensitivity.
Most of the shows are played without amplification, although they definitely know how to cater for a crowd of a few thousand. Johannes, Franziska and Jørgen have all worked in different musical formations, doing studio, Radio and TV work. They played on festivals from Dingwall to Tønder, from Sidmouth to Kalaka as well as in clubs and theatres throughout Europe.
2007 sees DÁN debuting on the international circuit with concerts scheduled in Austria and other countries to come.
