About Me

' Nuclear Waltz' is from the CD 'Cow!' by the Aldous Orwell Project. The song was written on the eve of the US led invasion and occupation of Iraq.
I always wanted to write for other artists but really dig performing as it turns out. I’ve been fortunate over the years to hear my tunes and words come out the mouths and instruments of some incredible musicians; notably Michael Friedman who I have co-written with since 1996, and Christine Duncan who performed my songs from the mid to late 90s. Michael’s and my work as now been played by full orchestras in Europe.
As far as my own performing goes, I have worked mostly in solo, duo and trio formats. In 2000 I joined with Michael and Mark James Fortin to form a trio called FFM which continues to write and tour and has recently finished its first studio album entitled Cinematic. Last year in Mexico I made a concept solo album entitled Cow! under the band name Aldous Orwell Project . It's essentially a collection of songs about power addiction and features some great playing by the mostly Cuban and Mexican band. Another duo project, Blue Manifesto was also recorded in Mexico at the same time with master drummer Bobby Kapp . It's been described as "Cirque du Soleil meets Dave Matthews in a special-ed class".
Critic's Review- “while many songwriters aspire to creating new standards,’ Masich succeeds” -5/4 Magazine (jazz), Seattle

Check out this new performance video ! This 'Aldous Orwell Show' : took place at the Cellar Jazz: : club in Vancouver BC and features Sam Masich as Aldous Orwell,: Glenda Rae singinging BG's, Miles Black on piano, Mark James Fortin on guitar, Rene Worst on bass and Tony (Tonehenge) Chamberlist on drums.

Influences: Everything. I cover a lot of topics in my songwriting, not just horny guy songs. Friends influence me the most. In the past few years, Michael Friedman and Mark James Fortin , two great guitar playing singer-songwriters have influence me the most. We play in a band called 'FFM' (Friedman, Fortin & Masich) together and I learn a lot from them when we write songs and tour. You can find out about their influences on their own MySpace sites and on the FFM page as well.

For about four years I did an all original duo act with Christine Duncan who has a great jazz, gospel, soul foundation and this influenced the way that I play a lot as well.

As far music goes I've always liked off-beat stuff. In the old days it was a lot of proggy stuff: Pink Floyd, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, King Crimson, Bowie, Fripp: , etc., then for about ten years I only listened to jazz. Now I like listening to Antony and the Johnsons, Greg Brown, Herbert Grönemeyer: and avante-gardish classical. I can get into most anything if its good and if its real.

Lately I've been walking along seawall in Vancouver a lot with my 3 month old son and listening to Michael Franti and Spearhead: .
