MUSIC CAN CHANGE THE WORLD
"Sincerity" is the musical performance outlet for the poem-songs of English writer, poet, activist, guitarist and singer-songwriter Alan Morrison. (See more of his song lyrics / poems at www.sinceritymusic.com & his campaigning website www.forsomeoneschild.com based on the award-winning anti-war song "Anthem for Someone's Child").
Sincerity have a style all of their own, although firmly rooted in the folk / folk-rock tradition. It has been described by one music critic as "contemporary folk with touches of country and progressive rock".
Although Sincerity will play in solo format (Alan on guitars and voice) and as a duo (Alan on guitars and voice, accompanied by Catherine on cello), additional musicians play according to the songlist and venue. Sincerity will play concerts of all sizes and venues, as well as for special occasions. Having been based in France for seven years, Alan hopes to be moving his creative base to the UK in the near future, although willing to travel any distance in the world to fulfil his musical mission, which you'll find below.

SINCERITY IS LOOKING FOR GIGS IN THE UK, SCANDINAVIA AND OTHER ENGLISH-SPEAKING EUROPEAN COUNTRIES. SOLO, DUO OR FULL-BAND FORMAT. PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS. THANKS!_____________________________________________________ _

Sincerity was originally formed as a duo in 2003 to project the blend in Alan's songs of fine-lined melody and urgent thought-provoking lyrics. The first public performance was a Benefit Concert for Amnesty International in Perpignan, France, in June of that year. Since then, the trademark emotionally-charged live performances took place across the South of France, soon to be in the UK and beyond.
"This is music from the heart - poetry set to harmony - love songs for the soul", explains Alan. "I want to reach people with music by encouraging them to delve deeply into a well of emotional experience and, as a result, to be enriched and even changed. That is the role of the singer-songwriter - not merely providing passive entertainment".
In line with that desire, one of the key missions of Sincerity has been to promote "songs of conscience" ('chansons engagées' in French) as a valid art form. (They have in the past been called "protest songs" - although the word "protest" doesn't really do justice to the genre, as it can be seen to be merely negative). All songs which are written from the heart are love songs in one form or another. "Songs of conscience" - which may indeed sometimes be actual "songs of protest" - are simply love songs of an altruistic kind, written out of passion to further a noble cause. They serve as rallying points to bring people together for the purposes of change. In this way, music can be revolutionary - even subversive - as well as being inspiring and beautiful.
Although such "songs of conscience" form only a part of Sincerity's output, all their songs - written and arranged by Alan - aim to make people think, to inspire them to live, feel and to love and to stimulate social and personal change. Sincerity sings songs of love and conscience.
As Alan puts it: "I dreamed a metaphorical motto - a syllogism, if you will. It goes like this: 'If music be the food of love and love makes the world go round, therefore music can change the world'".
Sincerity's 65-minute, 12-track CD, "A Trace of Sky", came out in January 2007 and is available for sale from www.sinceritymusic.com . Please sample some of the songs from the CD in the two players here on MySpace.
Finally, and most importantly, for the childrens' sake please also view Alan's activist website at www.forsomeoneschild.com , the dedicated website for the award-winning song, "Anthem for Someone's Child", in memory of all the child victims of the wars in the Middle-East.

TWO-FACED MAN - A SONG DEDICATED TO GEORGE W. BUSH

Influences: Not sure about influences. I've certainly had many evolving loves... Too many musical/ poetical/literary loves in my life to mention - from ee cummings, Knut Hamsun (his "Hunger" was mine too!), Fyodor Dostoevsky, Nicolai Gogol, George Orwell, Wilfrid Owen, Antoine de Saint Exupéry, Russell Hoban (Hoban's "Riddley Walker" must surely be the greatest novel ever written, alongside Orwell's "1984"), Jefferson Airplane, Love (notably Arthur Lee & Bryan Maclean), Pink Floyd, Robert Hunter, Country Joe & the Fish, the Grateful Dead, Frank Zappa and Poco to Gustav Mahler and Anton Bruckner - from Crosby, Stills & Nash, Joni Mitchell, Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Mel Tormé, Neil Young and Fairport Convention to Franz Josef Haydn, Dmitri Shostakovich, J.S./C.P.E. Bach & Jan Dismas Zelenka. Those are just some of the literary and musical loves of my life. I could mention many more.

Today, I'm listening to a number of passionate singer-songwriters such as Lynn Miles, Kim Richey, Lucy Kaplansky, Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin, Kathleen Edwards and Lucinda Williams. I could mention more.

But how much any of the above writers or musicians have influenced my music/writing is difficult to say. You take pieces of people with you. Having gone a little way into their world, they open you up to new territory to explore for yourself, in your own way and in your own time. But I never want to be a clone! I'd like to hope that I'm original.
Sounds Like: Sincerity!
