Stop Thinking and Start Feeling

About Me

Mario Panacci - Canadian Singer/Songwriter

Hi all: Listen, I want to start by saying how inspired I am by online services like myspace and CBC radio3. These services unite indie artists globally. Its Fantastic how we connect and inspire each other to keep stepping out, creating new songs and sounds. I'm proud to be part of this thing sharing online friendships and original songs with others worldwide. Some of my friends provide songs via basement tapes or simple "one take" efforts while others go with full production. It don't much matter - songwriting is an art form and a song is good or not so good based solely on its ability to inspire and excite others. Myspace let's us decide who we want in our musical world -empowers us to be the producer, radio DJ, record label promoting artists and songs that inspire us. We no longer need to follow mass marketed idols -Now that's something we can use.

I think Einstein was right - we're finally entering a stage of individual empowerment, shifting away from our prehistoric herd driven hate and fear mentality!
Some musical things I'm really proud of:

My volunteer work as part of Simcoe Hall's music program teaching kids their first three chords.

My 2007 yearly Socan royalty of $7.61

The fact that the most I've ever made performing live is $15. Songwriting is an art -not a business.

Artists I've managed that walked away from million dollar deals because they didn't feel "it". All of them happier today.

The kids I worked with that went on to join world class bands - I'm hoping they are also still happy.

The wisdom to sense that a song without real honest lived in lyrics is like night or put another way as some industry guy once said, you can't polish a turd - trust me - I've tried and it's messy business at best!

Mario Panacci - Canadian Singer/Songwriter - I come from a very musical family. My niece Stella and son Michael are both gifted singer/songwriters. I like to tell people I started the family trend (it pisses them off) because as a poor Italian immigrant kid in Canada, I was not supposed to be insightful or musical. Folks constantly told me my singing and songs had no value - my sound sucked. Most folks around me thought I should get an education - get a job - take my place on the wheel in a factory called capitalism. People thought I was trying to be better or somehow smarter than them - some still do. Well, I got the diploma, I got the job and I got the awards and I still wasn't happy- Imagine? It took me a lot of years to realize I wasn't writing songs to be better or somehow smarter than others, I was just expressing my real inner feelings trying to be true to myself - trying to find my reason for being - my soul - my spiritual energy. For years I kept my songs in the basement on tapes afraid to share them with others - afraid to connect? Somehow (???), I slowly started sending my tapes to a few very open musical friends and artists and I found they were also in the same state afraid to connect. We slowly started helping each other get our songs out to more folks. We continue to support each other and we now play our songs loud and proud! We don't much care how many people like our tunes - we don't gage our success by units sold or awards won. We sing and play our tunes the way we feel em sharing them with others. In a world that values idols, rock stars and plastic bright things, I'm very happy being part of the unknown singer/songwriter scene, hanging with inspiring like minded friends. Please check out my top friends too~ they are talented artists with something to say!

Features Stella vocals, James Quinn guitars and Mario vocals, gtr. All Mario songs are available for artist use so just send a message if you'd like to cover any of these songs and we'll work something out. It's little things that producers do to polish a good idea and turn it into a good song without affecting the :it" of the tune.

To Stella and James:

Thanks so much for the little things! Mario

The Peter Mandic Band Version of Eight Guitars - Thanks Guys!

Track 6 - Easy - Kat Rocket (Darren Donaghey and Stella Panacci) covering a Mario tune. Kat Rocket performed "Easy" live for a bit - highlights include CNE and Page Distribution Christmas party. Interesting story here.. Page Distribution was owned and operated by Victor Page (Steven Page's Dad). Some of you may not know that Victor took a year off work to pitch the first Barenaked Ladies cassette and helped set up indie distribution in Canada. They ended up selling like 70,000 copies of the cassette, which led Victor to open Page Distribution full time. Victor and his son Matthew were great supporters of original indie music and nice folks to deal with. The down side of indie distribution was the full return policy. This was a retailer driven policy and they gained at the expense of start up bands like Kat Rocket that had to repay like 40% of all royalty money received because buyers were listening to CD's for like 2 months and then returning/exchanging them for new indie CD's. Thanks to all the folks that did this kind of thing. Your greed helped build profits for stores and businesses and small original artists paid for it. The sad thing is Kat Rocket like most indie artists used every cent they made from distribution to make more music so it's not like artists were living it up with this money. Hence the Kat Rocket tag "the art of never winning". Back to the songThis cut of Easy produced by Darren Donaghey when he co-owned Catapult Records Co. You can hear the original early 90's demo (see CBC site). It's pretty raw but the "it" is there. Easy is now co-owned with Darren D. and Stella P.

Track 5 - Garden - A Mario tune - This version started as a demo done at Terry's studio recorded live with Rick Roy (drums) and Mario r -gtr/vocals oh there was some nice red wine on hand which may have affected the thing. Terry suggested he liked this cut best because it was slower with a better groove. Next thing we knew, Terry had put keys and bass on it (he's like that which is great!), Mario wasn't happy with his vocals so he asked Stella if she'd sing it. Stella created and completed the vocals in like an hour. It was amazing to watch her work. She was directing and Terry was basically hitting the record button which is not to say Terry isn't a good producer - it's just how sure Stella is about her vocal blends. It hit me then that Stella would make a great producer! She did the same thing for many years on all the Kat Rocket recordings but was so laid back about it that none of us noticed. The very inspiring and talented Stella Panacci and James QuinnHanging out in Laguna Beach with Stella and James.-Visit Stella and James @: http://www.stellapanacci.com -One of my fave songwriters and producers. Darren (Danish) Donaghey doesn't like the hype but his work is very inspiring. Visit him! www.myspace.com/thehideawaylights -

Influences: Early blues, Early Rock, raw demos -mistakes - bad vocals - Musical sparks of insight - glimpses of truth. Developing those glimpses into images the logical mind can grasp is known as songwriting.
Sounds Like: Really bad attempts at exposing truth. A soul that's down but not out - hoping for better. Willing to change to get on the right road. Love broke but not broken. The message - Most of us middle class members live in misery - money rich and love poor. We can do better.
