About Me

"Guitarist Brendan Mowat-Smith is fast establishing himself as a force to be reckoned within the Canadian music scene . With a firm background in both taste and tone, Brendan's musical pyrotechnics have gained him national acclaim. Citing and convincingly conjuring up influences such as Eric Johnson, Chet Atkins, and Jimi Hendrix, Brendan's incendiary playing fuses fiery-hot psychedelia with lightning-fast fusion and is a testament to a life devoted to music.Brendan shares the guitar slot for Casey Marshall's Fairfield, a brilliant and accomplished songwriter from Toronto. Brendan's career thus far has also seen him perform and record with the all-too-fleeting but spectacular EMI Publishing Canada band, Slute. A stint on the road with the his good friends and now Juno-nominated Idle Sons brought his playing to a larger audience as they roared across the country with Buckcherry in 2006.This past summer Brendan suffered a terrible off-road vehicle accident in which he broke his neck and shoulder. He layed low for the remainder of the year, healing the spinal injury and rebuilding his meticulous guitar chops. The guitarist is now back with a vengeance, bringing a new-found intensity to his career and playing.Brendan's tour de force guitar prowess is certainly not to be missed. Come witness it for yourself at the bar that's fast establishing itself as Toronto's rock and roll hot spot, The Hideout, (482 Queen Street West, Toronto, ON.) the first two Saturdays and last two Fridays of every month. The band is comprised of members of some of the city's most renowned outfits from the past few years including Rise Electric, Slute, Idle Sons and Fairfield. Immerse yourself in Yaggermeister, Jameson, Heineken, or whatever your poison of choice may be while watching them burning up marathon jams!(Jay, Now Magazine. Feb. '08)
