About Me

I started as a violinist at the age of five upon my grandfathers insistence. It was very difficult at first but later in life I appreciated every aspect of my formal music education. For some reason I soon "switched" to drums and percussion. When I turned twelve I formed my first band (HUSH) with Bale, Geko and Gocki, all friends from school. Soon after, we were playing all over the area gaining considerable recognition. That whole "hype" helped a lot and soon I was playing with many musicians from my birthtown of Novi Sad. The first significant band for me was "La Strada" which soon turned into "Luna". "Luna" is very dear to me. It is still regarded as one of the most influential alternative bands from former Yugoslavia. We had a brief reunion at the 2004 Exit festival. After "Luna" I joined "Ekatarina Velika" aka "EKV" and recorded the second album under the same title as well as the "Live '88" album. A lot has been said about "EKV" so I'll leave it at that ... for now. I've been living in NYC since 1988 and love every second of it. Over the past two years I've been working on a "new version" of "EKV" under the title "EKV Revisited". Most of the vocals are the same as well as most of the important instrumental sections but a lot has been carefuly added and edited. It's been a dream of mine as well as Milan's, Bojan's and Magi's to remix EKV songs. I talked to Magi in Belgrade just a few months prior to her departure and we planned many aspects of how we'd approach the mixes. In some sense I am keeping my word to them by working on this cd. It is expected in early 2007 under the PGP label. Look for it here, I'll post the date as soon as it's ready. Meanwhile, keep in touch and fight the darn bloody DIRTY "turbo folk" morons! Sincerely, Ivan Firchie.

My Interests

Drums and percussion, music production, drum innovation and manufacturing

I'd like to meet:

People willing to invest into pushing ALL the turbo folk morons OFF the cliff ... and soon!!!A quote by Nikola Tesla helps a great deal:" The present is theirs, but the future is ours"!Well, Tesla said ... the future is mine, but I'm sure he wouldn't mind!! If anything, NOW is that we need his death ray more than ever!! Aim it at the "turbos"!!!!Funny thing happened just the other day ... I'm still debating wether to reveal the name of the wisecracker (I probably should) that atempted to educate me on the subject of turbo folk - so called humans. It went somewhat along these lines: "Why dont you (me that is) just leave them alone ... they "deserve" the right to what they are doing ... " blah blah blah, and more such crap that made me feel not just angry but veeeery sorry for the particullar "not-yet-formed person" in question. Now ... I am well aware of the historical ignorance of the southern Slavs when preservation of culture is in question. That in no way (my young and democraticaly confused friend) means that you should just let the rats eat your food, 'cause "they are living creatures too" ... and "they also need nutrition". That confused occupation I gladly leave to you ... Me? I kill rats. Just killed a few the other day. Turbo folkers are rats! Get it?
