Unlike most tribute bands, 1234 throw themselves into their performance with a passion normally associated with a hungry original band. Since the spring of 2004, 1234 have been blowing away diverse audiences with their hauntingly accurate recreation of the live Ramones experience.
In the summer of 2003 vocalist Rich Evans realized his bass playing buddy Greg Thomsen bore a striking resemblance to the late Dee Dee Ramone. After a short phone chat, the pair decided, "Yeah - we should do a Ramones tribute together." Guitarist Daniel E. Helland joined soon after he and Rich hung out after not seeing each other for a year or two. Drummer Hoagie Gero was recruited upon his return from a stint in New Jersey. A few months (and a few wigs) later, they made their debut at the Northwest Punk Life Festival.
In the summer of 2006, Hoagie left the band, and a gaping void in his wake. After a short break, and a slew of auditions, Donny Paycheck from Seattle punk legends Zeke jumped into the Marky role.
1234 has amassed an ever growing repertoire of over 30 Ramones songs, spanning every stage of the band's career. Sure - all the favorites are there. "Blitzkrieg Bop", "I Wanna Be Sedated", "Rock And Roll High School", "Pet Sematary", etc. But so are slightly more hidden gems, like "I Believe In Miracles", "Commando", and "You're Gonna Kill That Girl".
1234 is available for more than just punk rock and tribute shows. The past few years have seen 1234 appear at street festivals, Hurricane Katrina relief benefits, private functions, and even weddings! Local music papers The Stranger and Seattle Weekly, as well as indie uber station KEXP have noted 1234 for their top notch performances. 1234 has appeared with artists ranging from local heroes like Go Like Hell and Dragstrip Riot to national acts like Living Colour and Faster Pussycat.
