About Me

PLEASE HELP MY SISTER TAWN MASTREY....,Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I grew up in the Italian Restaurant Business, world re-known Mama Rosa's, etc. My four sisters and I worked in the restaurants as children.I've been a dancer all of my childhood, I studied under the late Martha Graham at the age of 12. I moved to L.A to pursue acting. I studied acting and singing. (Ron Anderson, Elizabeth Sabine and opera. I got small bit parts in movies such as "Blues Brothers," "Mobsters" and also was a petite model. I even did a little comedy with an improvisational group at the Comedy Store on sunset bl. Opening up for actor Robin Williams improv group. I decided to focus on making music and singing because I had a vision to act, dance, sing and create all at the same time. My husband at the time Michael Anthony inspired me to become a singer. Putting together a band was the first step.I Started my first band and playing the L.A. circuit rock clubs. Whisky go go, Roxy, Troubadour, Palace etc. I had a lot of label interest from Clive Davis/Arista, John Kolodner/Geffen, Jason Flom/Atlantic. My band 2:am had a video on MTV. My 3rd hard rock band Den of Theives was produced by Gordon fordyce in Keith Olsen's studio. Keith Olsen went directly to Doug Morris/Atlantic, unbeknownst to me, and we were flown to New York to do the deal. Jason Flom felt slighted by us going around him and we were dropped from the label. My partner and I were devastated and moved far away from L.A. as we could to beautiful Co. Cork, Ireland. I continued to perform and recorded and also began teaching singing to local Irish musicians. I had my own Irish TV show called the Vibe, interviewing talent such as Slash G&R, and director Oliver Stone to name a couple. I also sang back rounds on various artists albums such as, Roy Harper and Belsonic sound. I became a mother to my beautiful and talented daughter Xaria Rose and began to teach singing while pregnant. In 2001 my marriage ended. I moved back to the States to continue to pursue my music career. I jumped on every stage in Mpls jamming and performing with jazz, blues, and am working with the heavy metal band Dodd. I'm now focusing on my first solo album and shooting a video which will be out by late spring. I am also a sought after vocal coach in Minneapolis having taught over 200 students with a good track record of helping them create their dreams to communicate their thoughts and feelings through the vibration of sound and the breath.I have a singing lesson cd available.. Sing with Mastrey volume I for sale. see cd.baby.com SOON to have a singing lesson DVD, and I will be teaching on line camera to camera. Background by EditingMySpace.com

Influences: I grew up with 4 sisters all enjoying different styles of music. My grandmother was a piano teacher for 50 years. My mother listened to classical..Bach, Mozart, in the kitchen etc. My father was a huge jazz fan and cranked up the volume in our living room. My older sisters listened to everything from Led Zepplin, Jimmy Hendrex, Stones, Pink Floyd, Black Sabath, The yardbirds, T-Rex, The Who, Deep Purple, The Byrds, The Animals, The Turtles, Mama's & Papas, King Crimson, Jefferson Airplane etc etc..(something different in each bedroom). I loved all the music playing in my home at the same time. My first album purchase was the Beatles. My beautiful sister Tawn Mastrey is world re-known disc jockey launching hundreds of bands. She has influenced me greatly to becoming a singer and is my biggest fan as I am also hers. My favorite singers were Janis Joplin and Billy Holiday, Nina Samone, Marlene Detrich, Mae West, Riki Lee Jones, Bonnie Raitt, Robert Plant, and Jim Morrison, have inspired me to become a singer. Being a vocal coach as well, I'm inspired by my students everyday challenging me to keep my chops up. I could list 100's of new singers who inspire me, but today, Chris Cornell is my favorite singer, and would love to duet with his voice. I listen to everything from heavy metal, R&B, Hip hop, Classical, Jazz, New Age, Raggae, funk, etc. Music has to touch my inner core, whether it's the actual instruments, the emotion of the vocals or the lyrics. It brings me to a place of memory, emotion, love, sex. My music has to bring me to that zone in order for me to feel it and then sing it. Music is a tool for healing the body and soul.
