Behind every good man there's a good woman...

About Me

I work too much and spend WAY too much time at this machine.
I'm lucky enough to work for something that I believe in. That something is also a someone.. and we live and work and spend most of our time in our own little bubble... the world of Science Friction Ltd. There is a never ending supply of work and research to be done, software to update, machines to maintain, questions to answer, accounting, packing and posting, people to deal with... general housekeeping. It's a lot of work, sometimes almost too much work but... It's been a great trip so far.
I was born and grew up in Morrison Cove in the Appalachians of south central Pennsylvania.
I miss my Mom, walking in the woods, Dennis, root beer, the way it should have been but never was...
I'm hopeless at expressing my thoughts and observations with words and I'm always embarrassed when I read old letters and journals that I've written...
I know the boundaries.. and push them from time to time, I'm a hopeless romantic, an internet junky, a gear head, a caffeine addict, a planner... primarily a loner.
Late summer sunrise from the office window...
Late Autumn misty morning...

My Interests

For me there's nothing more exhilarating than a long ridge
walk after a steep three mile climb along a rugged mountain
path.

Love road tripping, blue grass, mountains, dreaming,
genealogy, maps, watching, kissin', thunder storms, napping,
travelling alone, travelling with Roy, jigsaw puzzles...

I'd like to meet:

Three long lost friends:

Dawn Trostle came to my high school for a year (2,3?) before graduation and was part of my small group of friends. We stayed in touch for a few years after graduation and then she just... sort of disappeared. Last known address somewhere in Georgetown/D.C. But that was like... 20 years ago now.

Tom Caufield (sp?). A brief encounter with a very kind and gentle man under circumstances out of our control. Trying times, fond memories. I have no pictures but even 17 years later I see his face like yesterday. Easy... he was an awful lot like Sam Elliot.. right down to the handlebar moustache, crooked smile and sexy deep voice.. he was tall and when we stood arm in arm we fit like a puzzle. We should have tried harder but keeping in touch was nearly impossible with multiple long distance address changes on both parts..

Richard Jackson... Last contact was an envelope containing a newspaper clipping about some anti-aging/miracle cure postmarked Santa Ana, CA in 1990. On a post it note was written "Tracy. Try it. This works. R" There was no return address and I didn't follow up at the time. His health wasn't good. Often wonder if it 'worked' for him...

Music:

I've always been partial to a good guitarist, love the sound of a banjo,
sucker for a sad love song...

There's alway something happening at the local folk club
De Barras .

The local live scene has been great this last couple of years...

Roy Harper has been a positive influence in so many ways...

Harper's Fairy??

A long time ago now, in 1995, I did a thru-hike on the Appalachian Trail. The trail starts in Georgia and ends in Maine. It's just about 2160 miles long. The hiker community was made up of this wonder...
