About Me

I would say I am a songwriter-singer. My desire is not as a performer but more as a writer, however when you like to write and nobody does your tunes you got to do them yourself. My tunes" Ballads of Life and Dreams "some from my own observation and then some from my imagination. I have been told its AMERICANA and FOLK. I have just completed my 1st CDOn my CD I have the pleasure of being produced and having Tom Eure provide all the string instrumentation and also a little keyboard along with the harmonica of Tex Santos and the back-up vocals of Marie PowellStarted out many years ago playing guitar in Baltimore MD for several garages bands and played the youth centers and school functions. I had the opportunity to hang out and steal licks from some of the best Baltimore guitarist around. Went into the USAF got out played in a few bands in Charleston SC, playing some of the old clubs, doing the southern rock stuff. Then moved to WV where I was introduced to country and country rock music, played lead for several bands throughout WV, and then moved to NC where I live now. I got too involved with my other career. So music was put on hold for several years. Never got back into the band gig but have had the pleasure of about a 6yr off and on duo H.C Troubadours which was myself and a fantastic Harp player, singer, performer and also a comedian, Mark " Straw" Jeffers. Who just went to sleep one Easter and never woke up. I will always think and remember Straw. Straight From The Glass my CD, is a tribute to Straw. We always were going to make a CD together but never got to it. Now I mostly do open mics and on occasions play with Tex Santos. I have in a joking matter been title the "Matriarch "of open mics, but actually I am more of the "Martyr" of open mics. I will say that in all my travels I have never seen the level of songwriters I listen to in Charlotte area any where else.I only have one CD project. "Straight from The Glass" as far as music on the net, I have a few on Songramp and Folkalley and I was once featured on a New York radio station for a comedy tune I wrote. This show was a creation of Brett Eidman, a really creative comedy writer. Who has a CD "What’s so F@ Funny" Catch his gig if he is ever in your areaMy typical set is just the tunes from my CD I don’t do many covers, once in awhile. So I look for the gigs where originals are welcomed.Free MySpace Layouts by Iron Spider
Reviewer: Michael D. Evans Title: Straight from the Glass Artist: Don EidmanReview: Eidman has released an enticing debut album that draws the listener in with infectious melodies reminiscent of the early Jimmy Buffet and a delivery more akin to Billy Joe Shaver. With a budding political consciousness and a reliance on alcohol for solutions, Straight from the Glass fits neatly on the lost pathway of Americana. “Skywriter” is perhaps the highlight among the album’s many jewels.AIRPLAYOurstage-Quarter-Finalist in Folk genre with "Last To Fall"NOW PLAYING- on the Neil Young site Living With War Today 491 "Last To Fall" Nutshack-the Brett Eidman show in New York City some airplay on "WSGE" both recording and the oppurtunity for a live interview with Randy Walker the DJ who is also the Main tunesmith behind the sucess of ’Low Willie" Also some airplay on "No Static" a local internet based radion station by Jeff Chester who is also a local percussionist. and some airplay on the internet Charlotte Music station. This comment came from Jeff Hammer a guy I met at a really cool open Mic in Harrisonburg Va. Thank you Jeff, these kind words make me as a writer feel good "So I met this guy a week ago Wednesday at Gold Crown Billiards who really inspired me to write music of my own by the name of Don Eidman please check out the music from his first cd Straight from the Glass" check Jeff out at www.myspace.com/jeffhammerAnd now a little movie about healthcare I found on the internet to share! We as musicians have seen or been involved with countless benefits for our sick Brothers and Sisters . Also in my travels throughout the land I have seen way too many mayonaise jars with children’s photo who are needing heathcare in the stores. lets leave the tip jars for the musicians and UNITE for Single Payer Healthcare for AMERICA. Until then PLEASE support these events . Dont Be A Chicken

Band Members: I am a single act. Sometimes I do have the chance to work with others, mostly Tex Santos. I had a partner that I worked with for about 6yrs. Mark"STRAW" Jeffers, but he passed on to his peace on Easter Sunday of 2005. He was the closest Brother in music that I ever perfromed with. His primary insrtument was the harmonica, and to this day when I write a tune it's hard not to make room for a harp part. So for now I play very limitted gigs and mostly just do local open-mics, I did have the oppurtunity to perform on stage with a full band when I had my CD release party at the George Washington Bookstore and Tavern in Concord NC, this club is run by Laine who has been a great supporter of live music and encourages original tunes. On stage I was fortunate to share the light with Tom Eure who is a string whizz who can play any instrument he holds, as well as the engineer and producer of my CD, Marie Powell did vocals and back-up vocals, she brings to the scene a real genuine style with her history as a trained accomplished opera singer who is active in the Charlotte Choral and the understanding and desire of folk singer. On the drums at the gig was the percusionist extraordinaire Jeff Chester who usually performs with the local band called the Gael Warning who provides the public with a - Celtic, Aboriginal and Appalachian genere of music, also used Tex Santos, a local young singer-songwriter who has been playing harmonica and gutir with me on several occasions
Influences: Wow: I am so old it's hard to identify my influences. Okay guitar influences, Nookie Edwards/Ventures,Hendrix,Jeff Beck,Roy Buchanan, a lot of blues artist,Chet Akins although I could never get the hang of it. Alvin Lee, and I am sure i missed a loy of them. Writing influences, In my youth of course the Beatles, stones, Dyland, then later got into Gram Parsons then later got into and I stil admire and listen to them a lot, R.S Fields/ Webb Wilder, Townes , Steve Earle,Guy Clark, David Olney. Blaze Foley,Leonard Cohen,Billy Joe Shaver,Willie Nelson. Now in this area of the world we have an abudance of GREAT writers and I rather not try to list them because I would feel bad if i forgot any of themYour field content here
Sounds Like: As far as my singing they say I have a typical troubadour storytelling voice, in other words I talk better than I sing. My main strength in my ability to write tunes. I write with substance and try to pullout some deeper meaning than the conventional commercail stuff. I always say : I don't intend for folks to dance to my tunes. that's not what I write for. I write to entertain my friends and family. I do hope that my tunes will stimulate thought, even if you totally disagree with what I say. If I can stimulate thoughts or emotions then I feel my tunes area success. I write ballads of life and dreams. Some I have lived and some I have watch others live and, of course, some are no more than a product of my imagination. But in any case all of my tunes and music are mine and It's a priviledge for me have this oppurtunity to share them with others. I write folk tunes that have social messages, political commentary or stuff that is left of center I enjoy writing tunes that are different, and I realized taking this non-commercial road has it's problems. My serious tunes are in your face,no sugar added and matter of fact like vessels that carry my emotions, both good and bad. I think the present state of music these days that someone who writes tunes like me has a better chance of winning the lottery then selling a tune..Since this is"MY SPACE" I will also say that I feel we have a right to feel like we do and if we have that right to feel then we should have that right to write what we feel as well. My tunes may not always make you feel good, but they will make you think!! I can also be found on these other sites
