A: Artist development is simply the process of helping a recording artist achieve marketing success. As an artist, most of your success comes from the connection with you and your target audience. That's why it is extremely important to maintain a certain image, both physically and mentally. How you present yourself will determine your success and longevity in the industry. There was once a time when record labels dedicated themselves to developing their artists. Today, it continues to become more likely that the artist will develop themselves and build the quality image and sound that is ready as a commercially viable product. When a major label decides to sign a new group or artist, they presume the act has sufficient musical talent and performance experience. Today the artist is expected to be ready for marketing and media prior signing to a major label.
