“The stage has always been my home-I feel alive there.” Tehelah Lisett was born into an era were performing was always the basis of a great entertainer. “I want to bring the show to the people, performing shows is the essence of my music, and there is no greater feeling.”
Tehelah Lisett has been singing since the tender age of four years old, Tehelah Isn’t a name that you hear everyday, so one must wonder what it stands for. Her father Michael Edwards always knew his daughter was destined for great things, and so he named her Tehelah-which means to sing; and she has been doing just that. Her authentic and raw style is what sets her apart from other young artists in today's scene. She is not only a talented singer but also a gifted writer, dancer, and actress. She has always known since a young age that performing arts was her passion. “It was never just one thing for me, I love to sing and write music. But there is just something about theatre that just pulls me in, I love acting. It takes me on a ride that I can’t explain.”
Growing up in the church gave her a strong foundation to stand on. Being born and raised in Los Angeles gave her a vital outlook on life. When asked how she stays motivated day by day she replies, "I've always known that God has a bigger plan for my life then I could ever imagine, I can't imagine myself doing anything but performing. “My sound is a mix of so many different genres; I never want to be subjected to just one sound. Growing up I was influenced by Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Donny Hathaway, Mariah Carey and countless others. These people are true entertainers to me and it is what I strive to be like daily because there is always room for improvement.
She is also motivated to add her flavor to the business world, and she wants to touch others while doing it. Tehelah Lisett is interested in working with children to give them programs that they need to truly express themselves. “It’s very unfortunate that there are so many kids looking for a way out and it just isn’t there, I would love to just be a vessel in helping any one that I can. I truly believe in uplifting our younger generation, it has become a necessity to me.”
Tehelah Lisett is one to watch for! Just make sure you're ready for the impact that she is going to have on the business. "I want to display more positive images, especially for young girls out there. I want them to know that our mind is by far our greatest asset, because when we put our mind to it we can do anything!" Her sound is refreshingly different, and it's plain to see that she will always keep you guessing.
